So, start using Great Axes. Yhorm's is a personal favorite of mine.
That was always the case, but the Dragonslayer Greataxe WA was always parriable until just recently.
OH! Thank you for the clarification.
Bummer. That was my favorite thing to parry! Thanks for the info guys.
It was pretty fun to parry, but considering it's the strongest single-hit melee attack in the game (excluding criticals or one-shot builds) it was preposterous for it to be parriable. I mean how can you not be able to parry a wild swing from a glave/twinaxe (WA) where the opponent has poor footing and no balance but you can parry a solid, electrically charged, 60+kg hunk of steel coming down at high speed with a damn caestus.
It's a fantasy game lol.
I am talking within the parameters of reality/physics IN the game. There's a reason why you can't parry ultra weapons and why falling of high places kills you.
It didn't make sense (again, according to the game) for someone to parry the strongest attack of an ultra greataxe when all of it's other, weaker attacks were unparriable (2 handed).
They fixed it for a reason. Although why it took them so long and why it was never publicly mentioned is a mystery.
There's plenty of things that doesn't make sense that from will never fix, it's something that happened in all of their games. Thinking they fixed something because it didn't made sense, even by the game mechanics logic, is pointless wishing and just a coincidence or was changed because enough players ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about it.
Did I ever say this was the only thing that didn't make sense? You're supporting my own argument while trying to tear it apart. There's a lot of stuff that doesn't make sense even within the in-game mechanics besides the Greataxe WA, you even mentioned some yourself.
The O&U/Ringed Spear WA hyperarmor is absurd, fist weapon parries against ultraweapons (and in general) are absurd, etc. I've always been against such complete disregard of basic physics, even for a fantasy game where a lot of other physics are respected and realistic.
And with a shield, I do think running attack greathammers should be parriable. The whole idea behind parries is to take advantage of an opponents poor footing or bad weapon control and deflect such sloppy attacks. Swinging a massive object overhead (assuming you can carry it) while running falls into this category of attack.
Sure the animation for it is unrealistic because it looks like you're just pushing back the greathammer without even flinching yourself, and a different animation for it would be great, but the point of it being parriable is a valid one even if From is too lazy to make it believable by its animation.
Look, I get this is a fantasy game and a lot of things can't be held to realistic standards, nor would I want them to. There's just a few glaring inconsistencies with the mechanics that bother me more than others. The Dragonslayer Greataxe WA being parriable was one of them and I'm glad it was changed. It does seem more realistic, whatever their reasoning behind the change was.
