Difficulty is subjective. I wouldn't call ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lazy design "difficulty", more tedium. The hardest boss for me would be Midir. Not many other bosses were as hard as Midir to me. Fume Knight, Kalameet and Manus come close though.

That's for the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ list.

I mean. We can't pick and choose who to include. Every boss and enemy formed a cohesive experience that was dark souls 1.

If we include enemies that are designed to be sponges in battles of attrition then we can include enemies that take one hit but make you work for that hit through another battle.

Bed of chaos was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. But every trip down there killed me a little bit. Same with the 4 kings because I didn't want to cheese it with max magic reduction armour and shield.

NG7 CoC Elana the Squalid Queen.
It's "hard" in all the "good" ways - every swing oneshots you or instantly puts you in RTSR range, RNG summons (hello 8000 HP Velstadt), very high HP and resistances.

You know... I've beaten Midir and Gael on NG+5, and... like, it's not hard. Gael has a tempo and knowing what he does behind all those special effects on last phase outside the lightning it still retains its regular pace. Midir brought confusion on how his melee was but when you see it it's just its health bar that feels cheap. Gundyr and Nameless King on said difficulty are far more painful to deal with on the spot due to a mix of slow and fast attacks that sometimes are hard to predict.

1. Orphan of Kos and Laurence the First Vicar.

They are separate, because they're the only bosses that I go into thinking "This time... this time."

2. Gael, possibly.
3. Fume, possibly.
4. I don't know, we're getting close to just picking the toughest of the easies.

Never had too many issues with Orphan or Laurence, think alot of the poorly designed chalice dungeons oneshot tanky bosses were way more obnoxious (for all the wrong reasons). I'm pretty sure the most I've died to a boss in a soulsborne game is Watchdog.

It's really subjective since everyone has their own problem bosses. Some boss just has weird timing or rhythm to dodging an attack or two, and you just never get it down and keep dying. Meanwhile you meet one of the legendary super tough bosses and just ezpz beat it first shot and laugh "that was it?!".

Technically the hardest boss would be the spear of the church bossfight. Literally the only bossfight you can't adapt to. There's always a chance of you getting someone better then yourself or a counter to your build.
Real talk though talking only about normal NG. The most hatet boss for me was and always will be cursed chalice amygdala. Damn that ♥♥♥♥♥ was annoying to beat on half hp

Yep, I know how you feel. Got an AFK guy with infinite HP 3 times in a row. The only way to leave the boss room was to Alt+F4 3 times until I decided to just go Offline and fight the NPC. ;-;

I honestly feel that the difficulty depends on the build you are running. I had the hardest time with Adritch, when I was running a pure sorcery build; using the same build, I took down the Nameless King so fast I was disappointed. But here is how I'd rank them:

1. The four kings, NG++++, when I can no longer take down one before I am swarmed.
2. Darkeater Midir
3. Fume Knight
4. Bloodletting Beast. Seriously, my first ten tries got me Falcon-Punch insta-killed. All of the other Bloodborne bosses I felt like I could cheese by either parrying, or swinging away at their no-no zone.
5. Manus

Think the main problem with that boss was that he was like 2-3 times bigger than he should've been. If he was downscaled and he walked up to you, it'd be fine. But since he's so stupidly big, he walks to you, and you're between his legs when he finally thinks you're close enough for him to do anything. And from down there you can't tell wtf is going on until he suddenly grabs you and onehitkills you.

Most all the chalice dungeons only bosses felt like they were cut content, and for a reason. Like you couldn't parry them, their gimmicks/mechanics were just bad (hit me hundred times and I finally get staggered for a visceral, weeee), their movesets and hitboxes were wretched.

1. Undead asylum demon
2. Gael/Fume/Nameless king
