Hawkwood the Deserter killed
So I was testing in the shrine if I could kill Hawkwood [Which I eventually did] I got a heavy gem from him and he wont respawn back in the shrine, have I ♥♥♥♥ed the story up now? [early game]

Compared to the previous Souls games (Mostly DSI.) There's really no benefit whatsoever from killing the NPCs unless it's story/sidequest related. I don't think it messes his storyline up any as the item he'll drop later shows up at a specific spot.

He can give you a few items, but he's not part of the main story. If an NPC is important to the main story (or to gameplay) then that NPC will respawn. You can't screw up progress.

Nothing important. A dragon stone and a ring that noone uses ever.
