Dark Souls 3 Save Data Issues
Recently I got a new external hard drive for my laptop, and thought I would move dark souls 3 onto the new hard drive since it took up a large amount of space on my ssd. Anyway, I had already deleted it off of my ssd and only had it on the new hard drive, and when I started up the game I had to read the ToS which I thought was weird, but then it only gave me the option to start a new game. I already tried looking stuff up to help me, and I tried going back to my recycle bin and have what I think to be the save file, it was in a folder called Dark Souls III, and in that folder I saw a graphics config file, and another folder in there which contained "darksouls30000.sl2" so I was wondering what I could actually do with that to be able to get my data back, or if it's even possible at all. I tried putting it back in the game folder on my new hard drive, and reopened the game but still didn't have any option to load an old character. Am I going to have to replay everything I did already? I was trying to do my first blind run of the game but this kind of ruined it lol. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

type %appdata% in your taskpars search and find your darksouls 3 folder. replace the one in there for the one from the recycle bin

If worst comes to worst I can just run through what parts of the game I know, but although it doesn't sound like a lot of time, 10 hours sure felt like a lot in this game

If you installed Dark Souls 3 again. Start it -> accept TOS -> quit the game.

In your "C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming" should now be the folder "DarkSoulsIII"

And then just like Zerohunts said, replace the files with the old ones. That's it.
Just reinstalled DS3 on my PC again, and put back my old saves. No problems.

Are you sure your old savefile is actually your old save file?

The old "darksouls30000.sl2"-files last change time should be when you played the last time.

I did not reinstall the game, I just transferred it to my other hard drive. Should I reinstall the game before doing all of this?

you shouldnt need to. if you have a deleted save file, trasfering it to your roaming folder should overwrite the existing blank save. if it didnt work then the deleted file must not have save data on it

It says in the file for the "Last Modified" date that it was 4:22 pm today, which is roughly the last time that I played the game so i'm pretty sure that that's my save data. (this is for the darksouls30000.sl2 file) I might be doing something wrong because i'm bad with files and all that so sorry about that

did you find your roaming folder? the %appdata% thing
Zerohunts Apr 19, 2017 @ 10:06pm
id say drag the save file from the recycle bin to your desktop. copy the folder then paste it in the roaming folder replacing the existing one

The files in the game folder itself with the game say the same time edited as well, so maybe I should just reinstall and do this? I'm not sure whats happening, but i'm 80% sure that that's the time that I played last, and haven't touched it since only an hour or so ago, which was 9:00 pm so if it wasn't my old save data I don't see why it would still say 4:22 pm

ok i'll try doing that
Zerohunts Apr 19, 2017 @ 10:08pm
if you reinstall the game the save data wont transfer
Zerohunts Apr 19, 2017 @ 10:09pm
you have to have a copy of your save data when doing anything like that. suggestion for the future so you dont lose everything again

You can set up a 2nd folder for that stuff in your Steam client:
Steam Client -> Settings -> Dowloads -> Content Libraries -> Click on Steam Library Folders -> ADD LIBRARY FOLDER and choose your HDD.

Then you should be able to just move DS3 from your SSD to your HDD within steam.
Steam Client -> Right Click DS3 -> Properties -> Local Files -> Move Install Folder and choose the Folder you added on you HDD

No need for copying the game manually.
And if you install future games, just choose the folder on HDD for your games.
