Why are abyss watchers fighting each other?

I got confused when I was fighting them and noticed theyre fighting each other too. Were they killing each other to see whos worthy of the power they get in phase 2 of the boss fight? Or was there a curse on them? I failed the boss fight first time but in 2nd time I had a friend helping me and he used a glitch that lets you K.O. the boss in phase where you backstab them right at the cutscene so I didnt get to enjoy the 2nd part of the fight :(

As far as i and most people can tell they're locked in an eternal fight because they're infected with the Abyss.

Also, if its your First Playthrough, and your /friend/ took away the fun by using a Cheap Trick. Then, I don't think your friend is a very good friend.

Shouldn't summon anyone at all on first playthrough imo.
Abyss and dark and stuff. You can see roots growing from their clothes, roots growing out of stuff imply dark and abyss things in DS3. Basically their dreams of being like Artorias-senpai came true, they're all dark and consumed too now.

1. The last 3 abyss watchers were the only ones alive and somehow gained the ability to revive themselves with an exception for the main Watcher. The 2 watchers are sane (but idk why they fight the player) while one is corrupted. When they die the main Watcher absorbs all of the essences of previous watchers and these essences form into one, powerful soul.
2. The corrupted watcher smack-talked Artorias.

They are bound to forever fight the Abyss but they were ultimately corrupted by it so now they fight among themselves.

He was a pvp tryhard and I needed his help getting through invasion festival swamp which suites him to deal with this kind of situation. Didnt know he was going to be an *ss

I thought every time I kill one a different one of them rises, not that its the same one over and over.

I can't remember the last time I got invaded in the swamp. The swamp is not a watchdog area. You can't be invaded by watchdogs there (athough I think they can still follow you there). Also, you could have just reached the boss unembered and if you needed the extra heath, you could ember youself before the fight.

I don't think I ever heard of this glitch you friend used however. Not that I'm interesting in using though. I kinda like fighting them.

I've been followed all the way to the lower so yeah they can go down there since theyre gaurding the abyss watchers after all. The glitch however, my friend told me that if you backstab the one thats going to become powerful right before the cutscene while a friend attacks another abyss watcher to drain health to 0 then the game somehow thinks you killed the main one right away. He said it requires to people to pull it off. and yeah I dont think i'll be summoning him for a while now.
