Watch some review's or game play videos to judge if this is for you.
Base game you collect items to craft gear, kill enemy's for exp to level and get portal shards, Portal shards combine to make portal cubes to fix the portals on islands to progress further into the map, at set points on this map you will have a boss fight.
As you level you gain attribute points to spend to make a build, At set levels you gain access to class passives that you can change at any time.
You can build and make a base on any island and set any to your home, This is more or less the whole base game, At end game there is a few hard raid bosses being the main games boss's with new challenges and end game gear.
The two major expansion DLC's I recommend but everything else is optional as they are only early gear for an easier early game, cosmetics and furniture items.
(maybe patched by now but someone like me with all the dlcs and early access player items could spawn them and drop them on the ground for you to take.
DLC 1 add's the rogue class and elf race to character creation, This dlc is pretty much a basic roguelite game mod in the way the story plays, You get shards during a run and if you beat the run you get access to a shop to spend you shards on gear, pets, cosmetics etc. When you leave all shards are gone. There is three difficulty mode that make the gear and rewards better versions.
DLC 2 add's the druid / shapeshifter class and animal race's to character creation, The story of this one plays out with a wave defence game mode. Its been a while since I have played but I think this mode gave you a new money / shard that you could spend on the shops to get new gear, pets, mounts etc, I believe the final wave boss's had a chance to drop the best class items in the game as this was the last and final thing added to the game.
The random world events keep stuff fresh too. I'd give it an easy recommend
One thing to be aware of is for some people the Steam Cloud Sync corrupts the save files, but you can recover them when it happens, or just turn it off from the start.
Hey can you send me Star Wars Jedi Survivor? Thanks!
