Q: Can I use multiple profiles when playing Portal Knights in split-screen?

A: In Steam it is not possible to use 2 user profiles at once. Therefore the active user can use this "guest" feature to play in split-screen with a second user. However if the guest player wants to use his pre-leveled characters there is a simple way to do it.
Please follow the points below:
1. Open the savegame folder of the player who wants to play as a guest. The path for the savegame on the corresponding PC is: C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\portal_knights
2. Grab both character files in that folder
3. Open the "guest" folder in the savegame of the main player of the split-screen session. The path for the savegame on the corresponding PC is: C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\portal_knights\guest
4. Drop the copied character files into this folder
5. Start the game

The second player is now able to use his/her characters in the splitscreen session.
Please don't forget to copy the files back to the savegame of the second user if he/she wants to proceed leveling alone ;)

is it possible to set the secondary player up on a sepearate screen say like a Tv wit ha ps4/xbox1 controller, while i keep the computer screen/keyboard mouse, to myself?

Why not just allow the guest player to choose one of those other main characters?

We play this Steam Big Picture on our couch (like a PS4 player would) and we don't care about separate Steam accounts, we just have one family Steam account. But this way each family member could develop their own persistent Portal Knights character.

I totally agree....I don't understand why this is an issue for the developers to know allow us to just use a created main character as a "guest". At the VERY LEAST add in the ability to change the "guest" name :S

Having 2 Player Split screen mode and huge desk that manages to hold 2 keyboards, and 2 mice... Guys, this is serious.

Implement RawInput support so we can play with 2 KBs and 2 mice on single desk! RawInput is awesome, just unmarketed, developers don't know about it so it's extremely rare to see game that supports multiple mice and keyboards.

Also please fix the "guest" "account" - allow the second player to just select one of the characters from the 5 slots. I never investigated if and how the data is stored, but if characters are separated then we will be able to copy them even if this opens issue with cheaters that edit inventories like in Terraria. The game is extremely good, I love it, and it will be good idea to really consider my two suggestions - especially the RawInput one.

Yes splitscreen works same as full copy, multiplayer included,

I like the idea also to send second player w/controller to local lounge TV, would be a welcomed addition.

how to play with the guest character in main player ? I have played in split screen mode as the guest player and now I would like to play alone with this character but I can't...

from what I can see the save format seems to have changed from the original posted here , so the fix listed doesnt work . Possibly its to do with a change matching steam cloud saving?

Basically the main folder and the guest subfolder just have a series of numbered files (eg 0000000000 and 00000000.backup and so on) , copying the guest file in just overwrites the similarly named file , so its a nightmare to track (changing the name to an unused one causes it not to be seen in the game )
from what I can tell ..(and I may be wrong)
0000000000000000 is the game settings file
0100000000000000,0200000000000000 etc are character saves ,
names like 0400000000000100 and onwards are saved saved universes
..I think , it seems a bit hard to follow though and deleting another saved file stops the univerese being listed (a refering file??) .The names are partly hex based as well as I saw a 50f ,a0c etc there
I'll play around and see if I can come up with something a bit more concrete , but if the dev wants to fill in on the new naming conventions and what the rules are it'd be great!

I don't get it. Such a basic "feature" - still not adressed. I just bought this great game an my two kids love it... made their characters for split screen playing on the two "slots" and now have to find out that there is now straight forward aproach for the "guest" character to play in solo mode. Not to talk about me playing splitscreen with one of them on the first session and the other one on another session - That's really sad :-(

Please take a look if there is a possibilty to select characters one time as main and another time as "guest" slot - we need to mix our three charactes freely to stay happy...

The profile thing is a Steam issue, not the games issue.

The game crashes when it gets stuck with an NPC
After the last update, the game crashes when you want to talk to any of the NPCs. I paid for the game in Russian so I could play peacefully. But now I can play only in English without rallies. Dear developers, fix this bug.

I'd like if splitscreen was verticaly and not horizontaly...For both pc and ps4 version's

you can switch that in the settings
