How to create a DxDiag report
DxDiag.txt files can be easily created by pressing [Win]+[R], typing “dxdiag” in the Run-dialog and pressing [Enter]. Finally click on “Save All Information…”

How to navigate to your local game files of Portal Knights
In order to find mini-dumps or the portal_knights.log you have to navigate to your local game files. Please follow the steps below:
1. Right-click on Portal Knights in your Steam library
2. Select "Properties"
3. Select the "Local Files" tab
4. Click on the "Browse Local Files" button

How to find the Portal Knights Save-game
The Portal Knights save-game are being synced with Steam Cloud by default. However you can find your current used savedata locally in this folder: "\\Steam\userdata\STEAM USER ID\374040\remote

I can only attach 1 file to a bug. What should I do when I want to add more?
In this case you have to zip the files using the integrated zip program in Windows.

After zipping the files add the created zip-folder to your bug issue.

I have a black screen when starting the game, what can I do?
1.) Sometimes it can take a while until the first logos are shown. This can occur especially when starting the game for the first time or after updating to a new patch. This time is used to create new cache files, so that the next time the game is launched, it will start much faster.
In this case wait for 1-2 Minutes for the logos.
When the logos are not appearing after this time please report a bug and attach a DxDiag report and your portal_knights.log.

2.) Please make sure you have updated your graphic card drivers and sound card drivers. After that please delete the portal_knights.cfg from your local Portal Knights files and restart the game.

In order to find the portal_knights.cfg you have to navigate to your local game files. Please follow the steps below:
1. Right-click on Portal Knights in your Steam library
2. Select "Properties"
3. Select the "Local Files" tab
4. Click on the "Browse Local Files" button

When starting Portal Knights I receive an "Unknown Error" from Steam. What does this mean?
The "Unknown Error" is normally triggered when your version of Windows is not meeting the minimum requirements of the game. Portal Knights does only support Windows 64 bit versions for now. When your are trying to launch the game with a 32 bit Windows or a non-Windows OS this message comes up and you can't play the game.
When you are encountering this message and you are already using a 64bit Windows or you are unsure about your system specs please report a bug and attach a DxDiag report.

When starting Portal Knights the game crashes instantly without an error message, what should I do?
These crashes mostly are related to not- or incorrectly installed Steam Redistributables for the game. When you are encountering such a crash there are 3 things you can do to solve this issue:
1.) Verify your local game files. To do so right-click on Portal Knights in your Steam library -> choose "Properties" -> choose "Local Files" tab -> choose "verify integrity of game cache" and run it.
2.) If the issue still occurs: delete the game, redownload it and start it afterwards.
3.) If the issue still occurs: Install those Redistributable packages manually. You can find them here: ...\Steam\SteamApps\common\Portal Knights\_CommonRedist

When the issue is still active after doing all of the steps above please report a bug and attach a DxDiag report and your portal_knights.log.

Portal Knights launches minimized and I can’t see anything but I can hear the music.
In some rare cases, especially after making changes to the monitor setup (amount of monitors attached to the PC, switching the main and secondary monitor, changing resolutions, etc.), the game may start minimized and can’t be maximized. When you are encountering this problem please go to your local gamefiles and delete the portal_knights.cfg

Deleting this file and relaunching the game will reset the graphical settings, enabling the game to auto-detect a correct setup for startup.

1. Right-click on Portal Knights in your Steam library
2. Select "Properties"
3. Select the "Local Files" tab
4. Click on the "Browse Local Files" button

After Update v 0.8.0 my game instantly closes after starting. What should I do?
With the update 0.8.0 Portal knights uses a new vcredist package (2015). The error is caused by a conflict in the installation of the vcredist packages or a missing Windows update. The problem is not being caused by Portal Knights itself. However please try these steps:

1. Run the vcredist_x64.exe (64-bit) or vcredist_x86.exe (32-bit) located here: ...\\Steam\steamapps\common\Portal Knights\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2015
2. In the install window of the vcredist package select "Uninstall" if already installed
3. Install all pending Windows Updates by using the Windows update software and restart your PC if needed
4. Delete the following folder: ...\\Steam\steamapps\common\Portal Knights\_CommonRedist\vcredist
5. Verify your local game files. To do so right-click on Portal Knights in your Steam library -> choose "Properties" -> choose "Local Files" tab -> choose "verify integrity of game files" and run it.
6. Run the vcredist_x64.exe (64-bit) or vcredist_x86.exe (32-bit) located here again: ...\\Steam\steamapps\common\Portal Knights\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2015
7. In the install window of the vcredist package select ""Install"" and wait until the installation is complete
8. Start the game

Some users in the forum have reported that installing Windows Service Pack 1 has fixed the problem for them.

My Sound starts to crack and at one point my game crashes without an Error message. Sometimes Portal Knights consumes more and more memory.
This issue can be caused by a wide range of possible reasons. Please have a look in those threads. Several solutions have been pasted which were helpful for affected people.

My resolution is stuck at a certain value and I don't see any other resolutions in the list of my graphic options.
Please make sure you have updated your graphic card drivers and sound card drivers. After that please delete the portal_knights.cfg from your local Portal Knights files and restart the game.
In case the issue is still active please try to scroll upwards in your resolution list in order to find the other entries.

The fall damage keeps doing tons of damage when i use rocket boosters to help catch my falls. i think the code is going off of the difference in starting and ending hieght rather than spped at the moment of the collision...

The report link isn't working. I started playing this game a while ago, and was able to start my old save about a month ago. However, today when I treid to open the game I get an error, and I am asked to delete the game save. I would rather not start over since I am level 30 and have a good set up. Any I\idea on how I can salvage my save file?

I found an issue in the late game.
You need jade stone and bambo to complete two of the very last missions, there is currently no way to obtain set blocks in adventure/survival mode. What I suggest is that you add an island for purchase with those blocks, in the las island purchase place.

It's reward from Spring event.
Bamboo and raws jade stone can be obtained from this island or event NPC(Jade Stone Merchant).

I'm not sure that refined jade stone is need recipe or not. If it was not, it'a available from spring islands(seasoning event...).

Thank you but that island is event looked like the halloween island, I got the game mid summer, and that event was back in spring, so do you suggest that I have to wait to it becomes spring to get it?
I still think I brought a good solution. Thank you anyway.

The game crashes consistently when spawning in Brackenburg. I managed to load it once after it crashed the first time but can't get the game to stay alive now. Which is bad, as there's a portal left to claim.

Please help me I have a problem with textures I think.The problem is with my character skin, eyes and mouth, and this problem is making my grass texture invisible and my spawn flashing.

Hi! I have one issue too... My sister and I play in the same computer, one in world 1 and the other in world 2. At my world (2) it's everything working ok, I can go to the Christmas's event portal and craft things, etc. But in her's world (1), she can't go in that map. When she try to teleport to there, she is automatically teleport for "home", if she change the "home" map, she is teleported for this new location, and never for the event map. Anyone can help her? Can we take off the "home" action for this event time only? Tnks guys.

beat the dragon boss, but didn't get the achievement? Beat the entire main game, and still nada. is there any way to respawn the boos or will I have to start a whole new campaign??

I'm having this issue where you are "Infinitely loading" and when that happens I either lose that sessions worth of gameplay or I would lose my entire save file. Can the devs please add an autosave feature. That would be great
Not sure where to place this, but to the DEVs - please stop tagging this on steam as MMORPG - as it is clearly not. Asking here before asking Steam for you.

didn't want to go through the hassle of filling out the form on the web page, hope you guys look at this.
My issue is i placed 'farmer frank' from a chest i had him stored in and he is no longer movable, this is unfortunate as i put him in a bad for spot for a temporary position, the save i'm on is one of the older versions that i've had throught the last through updates, and have everything on, was playing the new dlc and need to sell things quickly grabbed him from a chest slapped him down now its permanent....
please tell me its fixable

So I wanted to play with my friend. And then I couldn't join him and got send back to the loading screen. Made a new character and tried differend universums. But I can't join him. Can we ever play again?
