Sudden Strike 4
Modding - Updated FAQ
In the updated FAQ :

"Modders can also freely alter the values of any unit, like name, speed, armor, shooting ranges, etc. However, you will not be able to upload new units or alter the in-game models. This is done for several reasons, including legal issues.
We will also try to create a template map project with scripts and text outputs, so that modders can see first-hand how they should go about creating a mod.
Mods will be shareable via the Steam Workshop. "

This is sad. More than half the joy of modding comes from adding content. Just look at BATUS mod for SS3. If you are worried over copyright over your own models, you don't need to provide in their raw formats. An importer for ingame format that supports the most common 3d formats would be enough.

I am not sure to what point does Steam Workshop (SW) play a part in this decision, but I've seen other games here (Cities Skylines comes to mind) where you have SW integration and you can build your own stuff.

Even if you are planning DLC's, then it would make sense to release it sometime after if you worry it might hurt sales, although some games don't even do that (Fallout/Oblivion).

This is really bad news.

The beta is very bad, without mods this game will be within the forgotten in a few weeks.
Can you imagine playing with the current system? Useless soldiers and tanks that do not kill ..... dead servers after 2 days of launch.
look at maybe @ Starcraft2 from Blizzard who have money, modders do even take models from Starwars and Rise of Legends, again Microsoft and Disney copyright, anyway , nobody cares.

Just look at Generals: Zero Hour, so many mods, I never liked the game, but the mods did turn it in one of best games I ever have played.

In the modern age, modding support = reskinning support + value tweaking.

No. Only half-arsed studios do that. As I said, look at titles such as Fallout.

When this particular game has thrived partially because the modding community it had, this comes a rather poor attempt to convince players to buy it.

Legal issues ? it's a historical game lol, who else is supposed to claim now rights for WW2?

C&C does all the time mod any other setting, the only,
only time ever it was not allowed was by copy starcraft.

Exacly! Shockwave, Rise of the Reds, Tiberian Dawn Redux...
Countless more!
And I even heard that some Chinese guys are trying to turn Red Alert 3 into sth similar to the cancelled Generals 2.

SS4 NEEDS to support full modding (model import, new factions, etc.)!

It does indeed
Look at situation around GTAV with Open IV getting closed by publisher actions.
I think we should take same steps, bad review on release if modding restricted and petition.
Bethesda is also bringing back payed mods. They are trying to get rid free moding so they can charge money for stuff that's was free be for.

Interesting, how to categorise "payed mods" from projects which started from mod and become standalone game with cooperation of dev/publisher or buy license to engine and assets and become payed product.
Back then there is was APRM mod for Sudden Strike which become Hidden Stroke game.
This practic was often used with Blitzkrieg game and Men of War.
Atleast this is better than nothing.
