Traits/RP
The way the traits work is bumming me out. Basically I want to RP a lot of things one way but the trait bonuses I want are a lot of times the exact opposite.

The funniest thing is that you can't even know what many of them are about, is it materialistic vs spiritual or romantic vs pragmatic, unless you've played the game.

Yeah, that is sadly still quite an issue. So often you think, if I answer that I'm materialistic, and then it's totally something different.

Yep, surprisingly this went unfixed for the Enhanced Edition. I'm simply not going to RP something when I could get immunity to fear. They need to figure something out with traits and conversations.

I like when I paid a "lady of the evening" to cheer up a troll and my two characters agreeing that that was a nice thing to do gave me, "+1 blunt." Huh?

Edit: Steam has a very strange language filter.

With so many different dialog choices, it's a real shame that you realize quickly you are at a disadvantage if you don't pick certain ones. I don't know why they thought shoehorning you into certain traits was a good idea. I hope in D:OS 2, the traits are more about how someone treats you and less about bonuses.

Some of the traits make sense, Bold giving +1 initiative, versus Cautious giving Sneak. Independant(+1 WP) versus Obedient(1+WP with leader in sight, +2 if 5 Leadership)

Others not so much, but its hit and miss with them. If you're trying to rp though, have 1 SH that you always control and talk to people with, and set the AI of the other one, to something like Judge, or Rascal. Then make your choices from there. If you want to be an ass to everyone, be an ass to everyone.

Really. It's not hard, and the traits aren't really huge.

Except for Spiritual, and blunt. always want those two.

Indepedent vs Obedient doesn't really make sense. Independant is always better, because sight to leader can get disturbed, in that case you lose you willpower benefit, while indepedant would be unloseable.

Yeah but it makes sense. Because your independant, you get +1 Willpower. but if you're obediant, and someone has +5 leadership, then you get +2 willpower.

Yeah but it makes sense. Because your independant, you get +1 Willpower. but if you're obediant, and someone has +5 leadership, then you get +2 willpower.

But you'd have +2 willpower with leadership 5 with independent too because it's just +1 boost + +1 from leadership vs. +2 from leadership with Obedient. Independent is superior in every way to obedient.

I really dislike the trait bonuses too. It makes balancing a lot more difficult, promotes a certain kind of roleplay, and they're just really poorly valued against each other. If all traits were useful to all classes (+willpower vs. +bodybuilding, for example), it'd be less of an issue, but still don't know if I'd like it.

Regarding the fact, that obedient only works within line of sight, the benefit should be doubled, or at least work for willpower and body building in my opinion
Snooze Dec 4, 2015 @ 5:49pm
Huh, guess i was mistaken; There was gonna be a spiel here, but it seems they changed how Obedient works, cause in the original, if you had a leader, obedient was the only option. Or maybe its bugged, who knows.

But in any case; You can still just ignore traits, cause other than spiritual and Blunt(immune to Charm/Fear), they're not really game changing. (hell, even spiritual is questionable, since with 5 leadership, you get immune to fear for your party)

The leader himself need to be spiritual to be protected himself, for the other player it is of course not needed. Many traits are only good for specific 'classes'. Improved attack of opportunity doesn't work for mages and marksman.

Isn't that the essence of Role Playing? You are limited by the role you accept, sometimes with beneficial and sometimes with harmful/unpredictable consequences. If there are no consequences, what's the point?
Big Mad Wolf Dec 5, 2015 @ 3:20am
Yeah, but those consequences are normally part of the story. You chose a way to play the story. Chosing different will change the story, not the combat itself. Regarding the fact how limited the points now got, that you can't rebuy the two books.
