And tbh, for me cleric starter is kinda like tanky warrior later :) Shield, heal and mace FTW!
It was easy to spread points too thin before, and it probably still is. It wasn't hard to build a sturdy cleric who could heal a lot, but actually doing melee damage was another story. My tanky characters never seemed to do much weapon damage, but they were able to use skills like Vampiric Touch for good damage. The reward for melee-range spells was pretty decent prior to EE.
I've considered going 2H weapons and not learning as many different skills to see how it goes, but I have doubts. There might be some low-hanging fruit on the spell tree that lets you primarily brawl and build strength, but I'm not sure whether it's worth it.
I rather like that idea, might give that a go! have played Ranger and full Wizard so far.
