Starting Difficulty?
Hi to all.

I was looking through the settings & noticed that there r 2 different difficulty settings, Classic & Explorer.
What r the differences between them?

Thanks in advance for any & all answers.

Classic is the original game's balance with challenging combat, Explorer focuses more on the story and exploration part of the game by decreasing the difficulty of combat.

Tactician and Heroic are also option when you try to start a new game, Tactician is essentialy hard mode, the game will be trying to kill you and Heroic is hardcore, one save, no take backs.

blood moon,

I`ve tried both classical and tactical. Classical was pretty easy but with tactical i could not get past the first battle (3 archers 2 melee skeletons). Would you say classical will get harder once you play for some time?

I`ve played classical until i played against the undeat boss in the first dungeon.

It should do, those are designed to be tutorial encounters.

The difficulty is ridiculous. Easy is no option, classical gets way to easy and tactical kicks your ass out of the game in the first battle. This is bad balance and you can't get past trough it when you actually try to roleplay with your classes.

If you try to play classes against your style of roleplay (just l33t-uber-skill classes with best chances) then you might consider to play this mode ... oc with a bad taste against your style.

@ Silencer: i know what u mean about the rpg'ing classes (although, i haven't had that problem yet, but i'm playing on classical). I'm kinda a stickler for trying to stay true to whatever class i'm using at the time.
Didnt try explorer, but yes if you build your charakters like a pro, classic is too easy, and yes the first encounter in tactician(i startet it yesterday) are beefy, but not that hard(realy).
I found the first encounter easy(i mean you know they will come, so cast oil there before the spawn and ignite it, realy easy!

Don't think people understood the poster, because I have the same problem. I am ONLY given Explorer and Classic mode options there is no Tactician or Honor option on screen!

I agree with Tactician being too big a difficulty leap from classic. I completed Cyseal and on the first encounter outside with the undeal, level 4 zombies were one-shotting my entire party. My people were all level 4 with as good gear as could be expected. They should not be dying in a single turn from anything, much less in what was a nothing encounter in classic mode. I had to give up as I was looking at an entire game based upon multiple save/reload cycles for every battle until I got it "just right". This battle was winnable, I just don't want to have to pull all the cheesy moves to make it work. That sort of stuff should be necessary only for major battles. If i have to do it for every single combat, it makes the game tedious and unfun (for me) to play. I was playing with a 6-man party, so it should be even easier in theory on any difficulty setting than advertised.

I just went and started again in classic mode. It was rediculously easier. I understand why people want the challenge of Tactician. I do think there deserves to be something inbetween.

I think they are enhanced edition additions.
