The weapons cheap enchants (added damage, added elemental damage, added STR + DEX)??
Still, it is handy to have, but I just put those skills on a back bencher. Someone who just stays at the Homestead rather than adventuring with the main team.
Oh, I did think of one thing. You can craft Magical Unlock scrolls, which apparently are quite limited finds in game. Getting that from a craft is random, though.
Skill books/scrolls are cheaper to make than if you choose to buy them directly from vendors.
Enchants/upgrades (+dmg on weapons, +elem. resists on armor, nails on boots) are applicable to any eligible equipment, vendor/drop or crafted.
2-h swords/axes and crossbows, if you're looking for raw damage output.
Crafted accessories are good (mainly at level 17+) if you need specific stats.
Having as much as a single point in blacksmithing allows for quick, free repairs anywhere.
You can combine your lesser health potions you don't want to use anymore into bigger potions.
Crafting is good for making gold if you're out of paintings to steal.

Immune to slipping boots
best way to make money in EE
Crafting armor currently doesn't have the appeal that crafting weapons does (save for the weresheep armor) however adding res all (ruby or individual essences) is almost a must mid-end game...
Nails + your boots is also almost a must for mid game (ice realm)...
Massive healing potions are currently the strongest heal in game (minor + minor, medium + medium, etc) ...
Don't honestly see a point in not having +5 crafting/blacksmithing mule; it frankly is the most powerful thing in the game when you factor in grenades as well...
This has been my experience. I haven't played for months so when I read the first two posts I thought they had nerfed crafting/blacksmithing. Can someone confirm if it's still the same?
Crafting/Blacksmithing have not been touched. Crafting/Blacksmithing have not been nerf'd.
Early game I made so much money I could craft a myriad of high level scrolls that obliterated any boss in the first zone, enhance my gear, give my rogues the movespeed they need etc....
All those purples you find are just placeholders for me until I can craft a real weapon. Same as cooking...get the right food for the job, eat it before starting the fight, enjoy your 150% success chances on CC.
I can make staff with 2 branches which is better than most purple one. And it cost few g instead of 2-3k.
Potions, arrows, nades, +5 int for mages just after first to hours to make him reach cap faster so you can focus on other stats.
But crafting books is a waste. You betteer just steal them than waste so much money on essenses and etc. Remember steal item valuse is lower than its real cost.
So you can steal item costing 2k because it steal value is 1k. While max gold you can steal very same 1k which will not buy you desired book.

Sooooo "useless" they are :D
Another "I don't know how to use so it is useless!" post.

Craft yourself a new weapon every time you level up. there is nothing better than self made weapons for your level. nothing, they're FAR better than anything you can buy.
they may not have on-hit effects or stats, but they just have so much more RAW DAMAGE!
A selfmade 1h axe for lvl 20 or something almost reaches the damage of a generic yellow//purple 2h weapon (!!!) of the same level.
With Crafting 5 you can even add Tormented soul to those insane weapons, giving you extra stats.
Resistance Enchantments.(Crafting)
Get 80% reistance from everything. lvl 5 crafting, an essence or ruby (+resistance to all depending on your lvl). yo.
Add Nails to your shoes, no more annoying slipping on ice ;)
You can create non-magic weapons and armor in each type (dagger, spear, 1h/2h sword/axe, bow, crossbow, leather, plate, robes, boots, shields) which is levelled with you and has higher damage than you could find.
You can enhance almost every item in the game (except tenebrium and partially crushing weapons), by using the grindstone (+damage), anvil/oil (+movement for heavy armor, +block for shields), spare parts (+armor, +ranged weapon damage), tortured souls (+strength/defense), essences (elemental damage/resist), poison, tenebrium (damage / resist on shield), or simply nails for your shoes so you don't slip on ice. Most of them can be done without going back to the city, though whetstones are hard to find.
You can also make excellent unique items if you are patient (since their level will be the same as you when you create them).
Also you can make many non-magic / minor magic items and potions which are excellent way to make so much money that you can buy (then enhance) any items in shop.
The cheasiest things is that if you hoard up essences (if you have crafting then you'll swim in gold so not hard), then you can easily reach 100% elemental resist on all your characters.
Not to mention the investment is pretty low: you can get +2/+2 to blacksmith/crafting from items (you only need to equip them when you craft), 1 craft from pragmatic trait (much better than lucky charm), and +1/+1 from scientist talent (if you want other talents, then go for it, but it worths at least 4 skill points so much better than the skillpoint trait). That means you only need to invest 3 points (1 to blacksmith, 1 to craft, 1 to tenebrium) to reach 4/5/3, so you can craft anything.
