Can GOG and Steam owners online co-op together?

I bought the game on GOG and my friend just asked me if we can play together if he buys the game on Steam. I don't have an answer so was wondering if any of you guys would know? Thanks

yes they can over direct connection and entering in the code

Yeah you can use direct connect you will get an ip for example rawrwtf3454dgg435 or something and you give them this, they enter it in the game lobby and will be able to connect to you.

Okay thanks guys. I did look but I read "direct connection" as meaning LAN so thought it best to ask first.

Isn't the whole point of the GOG Galaxy client to provide multiplayer regardless of DRM?

The GOG version would need an update to support Galaxy, which last I heard (a while ago) was planned but waiting on GOG to finish some infrastructure stuff (IIRC).
There is another game update in the works.
