Boots enchancement?

What can boots be enhanced with? Both leather and steel. I tried putting essences and glass rubies, but only putting nine-inch nails worked, whereas the essences and glass rubies didn't work.

Try combining them with the appropriate scrap material. Also iirc void essence might give +sneaking.

Also large nails add immunity to slipping on ice. Quite handy in Hiberheim.

That would be a good piece of advice if the OP would not already have noted that that was one of the combinations he had already figured out.
