You should follow the story and you will get it. If you cannot enter the mines any more you have the first part done ...

There is no way to make the death knights in the mines invulnerable - without cheat - because you cannot access the mines anymore once you found one of the parts for the spell ...

you need two spells in order to get acces to the ability to inflict dmg on the death knights; the first you find in the mines (on a table in the high priests office), the 2nd one you get in the end of act three after defeating the last boss in the immaculates temple and by clearing leandras room
