For mods in the Steam Workshop, all you need to do is subscribe to the one you want and activate it in the game's "Mods" menu.

You might be able to activate more than one mod at a time but the game will still load only one at a time.
After you subscribe, it might take a while for a mod to be activatable because it needs to be downloaded before it can actually be used. Subscribing does not yet immediately download a mod as far as I know, you need to start the game to trigger the download.

It is advisable to create a new profile for each mod playthrough - one profile per mod - when playing with one of the mods. This keeps all your different playthroughs, save files, etc. nicely separate.

There are even more mods on the Nexus, but they need to be installed manually. Install instructions should be in the mod descriptions on the Nexus, Read them.
The Epic Encounters mod can be installed from the Workshop but needs an additional download from the Nexus. Read the installation instructions in Epic Encounter's description if you want to use that mod.

Only some of the mods on the Nexus are installed in the same way as Workshop mods. A lot of them are "direct install mods", which means that they are installed directly into the game directory. These "direct install mods" are not really mods but rather game extensions. They are always active, even for "mod-less" playthroughs and can only be deactivated by uninstalling.

Important notes for most Workshop mods:
- most Workshop mods need you to start a new playthrough. Most of their functionality will not work otherwise.
- NEVER deacticate a Workshop mod for a playthrough as this will not deactivate some functionality but might rather result in crashes due to missing internal data

The reason for both above points are technical and I think that you're not too interested in technical internals ;-)

I'm using the six party members mod from the workshop. Does using that or other mods turn off achievements like in some other games. Don't really care about cheevos, just curious.

Mods don't remove achievements. I'm using the 6 pc mod as well.
