Black Cove: Pontius' key?

After a titanic running battle, we finally defeated Pontius the Pirate and his scurvy crew. I grabbed the key from his charred remains. However, when we headed back up to the top of the Cove, to investigate the Black Door, we couldn't open it.

I gave the key to myself, and took over the lead position. However, the door refuses to open. Is there some trick to using the key? Neither it nor the door display any hint of needing some esoteric use comands, so I am at a bit of a loss here. Any ideas what's wrong?

Uhmmm...just throw your pyramid over and use it to teleport. Isn't the Pontius key just for the chest?

Hmmm, thought it was for the door. Also, I had no clue that the door didn't extend all the way to the roof, so I didn't try the pyramid trick. How odd. If it's that easy to bypass, why did they bother to give it a lock rating? (it's a 5 lock).

Sorry, that doesn't work at all. I can't throw over the door/wall. I even tried putting the pramid in a basket and tossing it over; I got the message "too high".

Pontius should drop not only one but two keys, one being the 'Black Ominous Key' which is for the door. Pontius' key is for his chest I think.

The door key seems to drop a bit away from him n my playthroughs. Hit ALT to find it on the ground.

Exactly, the ALT key is the most important key in this game if you don't want to miss stuff.
Sometimes a camera rotation is required to make things visible, so the middle mouse button is the second most important ;-)

Yeah, I found it. FInally.

Loot visibility is a serious problem in this game. I spent an hour just now going over each and every battlefield I had ever fought on, while holding down the Alt key all the while, and picked up a huge amount of stuff ... weapons, wands, armor etc. that I had not seen before.
