Were stat books removed from Teller of Secrets?
I've read about the Compendium of Mortal Techniques and another book to buy attribute/ability points, available from the Teller of Secrets in the Homestead. I've unlocked the Hall of Secrets but the only thing the Teller has to sell is maps...no books.

Were these removed from the game somewhere along the way, or do they appear later? (Or is there a bug of some kind)? :bonehead:

The other book is the 'Ancient Tome of Body Mastery' if I remember correctly.

It must be some kind of bug where an ingame init script did not trigger.
The books are added to the Teller at game initialization ... if nothing goes wrong.
If she does not have them, an error must have occurred.
The reason why the books are added by script and not through the Treasure Tables is to keep them unique. (If they were added by the Treasure Tables, there would be an 'infinite supply' of them.)
(I think there was a bug when the EE came out that prevented the Teller to have the books but it was supposedly fixed in a patch.)

You have three choices now:
- contact Larian's support
- continue and go without the books
- start a new playthrough (and hope that the bug does not trigger again)
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Thank you for the replies, even if it isn't the answer I was hoping for.

I'm definitely not starting over. I guess I'll just have to do without. Or maybe I'll consider using CheatEngine to tweak the stats and subtract the gold. Anybody remember how much they cost (at say 35 attitude and 6 barter, thanks to mule) and what exactly they confer?

I bet this all happened because for the longest time the Homestead didn't advance because I didn't notice the Teller of Secrets sitting in the Hall of Heroes.

1 Attribute point, 3 Skill points.
Total 13-15k with standard attitude and 3-4 barter from memory. You can always just check the actual price and quit the game straight after though.

Man...would really like to buy those. I guess I'll have to check out CheatEngine. :steamfacepalm:

Their cost in gold was 7500 gold each in my last playthrough but I don't remember which reputation I had, must have been around yours and I'm pretty sure I did not have a single point in Bartering, not even from gear.

There are more of these books in the game, not sold by the Teller.
There are two additional Mortal Techniques and one additional Body Mastery I know of.
As far as I remember, they are spawned via the Treasure Tables so the same bug should not occur for them.

@FrauBlake thanks for the info. I'll try to calculate/estimate how much 15,000 worth of stuff would cost my barter mule, and subtract the corresponding amount from my gold inventory. And I'll certainly keep my eye out for more of them! I did find one book that gives +1 INT / -1 PER and bought it.
