So no worries just stick them in the party once in a while. Good if you use them as crafting mules, etc.

In any case I'm having two main characters and all companions specialize in certain areas.
Real companions (Madora, Jahan, Wolgraff, Bairdotr) auto-level to your character level when re-hired, henchmen do not.
Not saying the graphics, they are fine. Just the look of some of the enemies. A bit cartoony for my taste.
Also is the relationship between the two main SHs randomized? With their conversations from gifts, compliments etc
It shows the attitude towards the character you're currently controlling.
No idea. No idea what it even affects (apart from the after game "what happened after game events" portion probably). It might have a bigger effect if you decide to have your characters have pre-established personality types rather than none in character creation, but I've never tried those out so I don't know.
