it's one of many puzzles in dos1 which made game total blast for me :)
i.e. not sell them to a vendor because you don't think you need it anymore. :-)
I wasn't getting the last thread of the tapestry, until I found an inert stone I had sold, picked it up, when back to the 'end of time' and it finishes.

If that is indeed the case… how do I find the bloody stones I already sold ages ago? Just backtracking and talking to every single NPC you can trade with?
I don't think you can sell Blood Stones? Not entirely sure but I'd assume that isn't possible.
You don't need to keep the inert stones, this I'm 100% sure of. The poster you replied to procced some other way to progress with the tapestry and just thought it was because of the inert stone. It wasn't.
