Don't take the challenge, Snorri is one of the rare vendors that sells legendary gear... every time you level up and every few in-game hours you can go visit him and see what new items does he have for sale, don't finish his quest until much later. Before you talk with him save the game look what he has in store if you don't like the items, you can reload the save and new items will appear, sometimes they will be the same ofc, but the point is the loot in Divinity is RNG based so you can try save scuming until Snorri has item/s you really want.

P.S. legendary items won't appear until later, you need to make progress in the story and complete certain quests for legendary items to begin to appear.

I wouldn't complete his quest until the very end of the game (when you are close to lvl. 20), reason for it is when you solve his quest you only get 600xp and treasure chest, he then disappears forever making you unable to buy any more items, it's far more beneficial to let him stay around and visit him from time to time to see what items he has.

Most main vendors have the chance of selling legendary gear.

Personally I've never bothered to keep him around, and never have I felt like I lacked legendaries. In addition, you really want to minimize the number of vendors you visit every time you level later on... The vendor cycle I do every time I level up late game takes around 15-20 minutes to complete, and I already skip quite a few of them. If I added the ones I'm skipping and added in all the random straggler vendors around the world (like Snorri), I'd be looking at an ~hour long vendor run every time I level.

depends on if you do a lot of roaming about looking for gear on vendors. There are plenty of vendors that can sell high level gear, and unless your really dedicated you probably might forget Snorri totally.

In the EE edition you actually can complete the quest and kill Snorri both, giving you 1030 XP total (600 quest, 430 killing Snorri).

After you destroy the ball, you have exactly time enough for 2 hits on Snorri before he disappears and the automatic quest finish pops up. Keep your strongest damage dealer (or 2) down and send the rest of your companions up the stairs so they don't interfere in combat order.

I usually smack the ball until destroyed with my warrior in offensive stance (+ 20% damage) and then hit Snorri right after to start combat. This gives me 1 fast attack before he disappears so i follow up with a Splintered arrow attack from an archer to kill him. I'm sure any concentrated high damage attack will work. And there you go, experience from both killing him and completing the quest.
