I think that is what unlocks the different portals.
I think you missed some...
Have fun :)
(Not too many people usually think about taking that way, not many people do the lava way, most just fight their way to the stone - the left path.)
In any case, progress in the game is halted until the attack on the homestead is stopped, it does not matter how the stone is reached for destruction. There are three ways, as ZixZax stated when he bestowed that quest. What you called 'cheating' is one of them.
Once the stone is destroyed, one must return to the homestead and the unlocking marathon starts. (if only the Hall of heroes has been unlocked but a lot more stones used since then, it will be a marathon.)
Remember to visit every room and at least trigger some auto-conversation inside, and then leave the room through the room portal again, because leaving with the waypoint teleport instead of through the room portal might trigger another halt. (which is a bug or at least a developer oversight).
Best you visit the room and run through all of it, speak with the potential npcs inside, and leave through the portal afterwards. (This should automatically fire the 'has been visited' trigger.)
After leaving the room, ZixZax will either directly start conversation with you again and run off to the next room to open, or he runs off without conversation.
There will be quite a few cutscene videos, which is the 'history'.
You just answered yourself. Go solve that quest.
Those demons are permanently invulnerable, you have no way of removing it from them; thus sneaking by with invis isn't really cheating, just an option available.
