Should I be smelting weapons or selling them?
Just wondering what I should do with them.

You don't need to wait with smelting, unless you have no place to store the metal bars.

Crafted weapons though get more expensive with increasing blacksmithing *and* with the crafter's level because weapons are always crafted with the crafter's level.

Means that if you don't need "instant gold" you might want to wait with crafting until after a level up.

(For game-internal technical reasons, crafting a sword, smelt it, craft again, smelt again, ... is not a good idea. That should be avoided if possible.)

I am doing blacksmithing and crafting on one of my mains and have no idea if breaking them for matierals is worth or just improving them and selling.

You are doing right. Accumulate them until you reach blacksmithing 5 and then create weapons. Major revenue source

Do not waste ore even on level 4. Wait for level 5. Don't listen to semi-advises here, it is completely legit core mechanics of the game.

It is like investment. You horde patiently molds but to reap the most benefits you have to be patient and reach level 5 blacksmithing.

I do have a run without any shopping and blacksmithing but that is for more experienced players in the game. Blacksmithing and Crafting are 100% legit mechanics and many people find it fun to tinker with it

I'd say definitely "waste" your ores since they weigh like 10x their ingots counterpart. Stock up on ingots, not ores.

you can buy more junk every vendor refresh. I've never had issues getting more ore. obviously yes more money later than earlier. but late game money was not really an issue.
