Hi, I would recommend using them in some tough fights. I saved all of them and figured out that you need to actually use them to open the portals in Homestead. If I had used them in fights, they would have been much easier though. As far as I remember there is only one active stone needed for a quest which is about a wounded carrier-pet in Luculla Forest.

There are two quests that require a blood stone to finish. Both in Luculla Forest.

It has less to do with levels ...
If you have finished both quests you can freely use them whenever you like. You don't have to finish those quests if you don't want to because they are not relevant for the main story.

Portals in the homestead are only opened when a blood or star stone is used (auto-used in case of star stones). While the homestead is under attack, the opening of portals is blocked. Opening of new portals is queued and new portals are opened only after the homestead is saved.

I did save that pet already with blood stone to heal it.

What is the second quest? Can you remember it other than the wounded pet.

The guy with the injured leg. I just kill him as he is the guy that set Binkie on the gal at the inn.

Frederick, to be precise. I did not want to spoiler it ;-)

There's another blood stone pretty close to where Frederick is - two actually ;-) - so you don't need to save any if you already saved Alfie.

This should help.

Stone 5 (Star) - Found in Bracus Rex's Personal Belongings Chest in the North East corner of the same room. Can only be opened with his key or with magical open scroll.

Stone 6 (Star) - Found in the Immaculate Trial after solving the puzzle with the levers.

Stone 7 (Blood) - Found in the hidden room at the end of Maradino’s Lab.

Stone 8 (Star or Blood) - Found at the end of the quest with Mangoth. The type of stone depends on your choice at the end.

Stone 9 (Blood) - Found when you destroy the totem in the Goblin Village.

Stone 10 & 11 (Blood) - Both hidden in the cellar of the Immaculate church in Silverglen (accessible after meeting Loic at the end of the Immaculate trial).

Stone 12 (Star) - Found in Boreas' treasure vault.

Stone 13 (Blood) - Found when you destroy the talking Iron Maiden in the Hiberheim prison.

Stone 15 (Star) - Buried in the Source Temple near the Teleport Mirror. (Upper wall)

Stone 16 (Blood) - Found in the Temple of the Dead above Cassandra's true corpse in the eye of the stone titan head.

Stone 17 (Star) - The amulet that Zandalor wears around his neck contains a star stone. Once you get close enough to him in the Source Temple it will activate.

No matter which way you "complete" that quest you end up having to kill him.

Also, a point no one has mentioned so far is that most xp in the game is set in stone, meaning it doesn't matter what level you are you will get ___ xp from killing ___ unit or finishing ____ quest. This is not the case with blood stones; if you use them early they will give off low XP (around 500) but if you wait that number will hit over 7k per stone.

I personally hold on to the stones and use them later to push me to level 22 premature.
