Help Crafting Tenebrium
Man this tenebrium thing is convaluted . . .

I spoke with Brandon about retirment. He gave me the cage for transporting tenebrium. I skipped the Goblin King Quest (did not feel like wrestling with perception skills to discover the cave entrance) and simply went to the troll blacksmith and stole some tenebrium ore. I returned this to Brandon and as a result he provided the tenebrium skill. So, I went to the blacksmith and stole some more ore.

Keep in mind, I have not crafted or smithed anything during the game so I am not very versed on the process and my characters have low crafting and blacksmitthing skills. I had to waste some skill points to raise my skills. Then I had to exchange equipment and equip it to a character who just happened to have a little skill already to attempt working with the stuff. I tried the forge in the troll's smith shop but he got all bent out of shape. So, I had to enter sneak mode and try. I put some ore in the forge, no results. My character has a blacksmithg level of 3.

So, I have ore, some blacksmithg skills, but I can forge a bar to apply to weapons (which I have no idea how to do!). Here are my questions as a result:

- Can I go to another forge and forge some tenebrium bars?
- How much tenebrium ore do I need to forge a bar?
- Is 3 the lowest level for blacksmithing tenebrium bars?
- How to I apply ore to weapons?

Yes, I have done research. But many explanations seem explain what to do, not exactly how to do it. Very frustrating.

Thanks for any useful help.

- Tenebrium bars can be smelted at every forge (that is usable); right-clicking on a usable forge will open the crafting window with the forge pre-selected in the left slot of the crafting window (called 'experiment' on top of the window); you can find a forge behind the abandoned house in Cyseal, there is the elemental forge in Hiberheim, there is a forge in the homestead and one in Silverglen, one forge is inside the trapped house in Cyseal east, and there might be more which I have forgotten to mention; the forge in Silverglen has prpbably been claimed by the rescued smith and his wife (Alfie quest), so do not use it or they get angry. (Side note: tenebrium bars can probably also be smelted at a normal oven, like the one in Cyseal's military camp, where the 'Now where is my pepper?' legionnaire is ;-)

- 1 ore == 1 bar

- yes, you need Tenebrium 3 (unless you use the mod XC_Bags or XC_Encounters, where Tenebrium crafting can alternatively be done with Blacksmithing 6)

- open the 'experiment' tab of the crafting window, put the weapon into one slot and a tenebrium bar in the other slot (either by dragging them to the slots or right-clicking in the inventory while the experiment page of the crafting window is opened) and click the crafting button at the bottom of the crafting 'experiment' window; if you have a stack of several bars, you can put that stack into one slot and the crafting engine should only use one bar from the stack. The crafting window can be opened at any time from a button immediately above the inventory in the character window.

You need Tenebrium 3 to add a tenebrium bar to a weapon, and Blacksmith 4 to turn tenebrium ore into a bar.

As a shrotcut to opening the Craft window, you can left click a forge / furnace, then add the ore to smelter. In the inventory you can right click a tenebrium bar, or weapon, and select 'Combine with'.

So, I need to spend time to farm EXP in a limiated farmable resource game to raise specific stats so I can craft items to forward a quest which the game narrative was vague about how to advance and does not tell explain the actual resources or skills I need to do it (run on sentnece time!)?

This game is really frustrating at times. This is situation is an ideal example of my frustration. Is there a way I can merely buy a tenebrium weapon? The only think I need to do is attack the crystal to continue the plot.

Despite my snarky comment I do appreciate your help! :)

There is also gear that raises your tenebrium level. Tenebrium weapons are a bit overated. Tenebrium weapons heal rather than damage the end boss. There are many weapons, found and crafted, that do more damage, especially with added elemental damage added.

Good information, thank you. The only reason I need a tenebrium weapon to damage the crystal\stone thingie in the Immaculate Cathederal. This unofrseeable, single snag has brought my progression to a grinding halt. Without Internet forums and such I don't know how anyone figures this convalusion ( I think I just invented a word in my fit of frustation) out.

Can I just by a tenebrium weapon for friggin' sake?

Again, thank you for the information despite me openly expressing my frustration.

Yes, you can find or buy tenebrium weapons (or tenebrium bars). Check the blacksmith shop in Sacred Stone.

If you are not playing dual lone wolf characters, you can swap out a companion you aren't otherwise going to use for crafting and blacksmithing duties. Companions get an experience boost when joining, if they are lower than the main character that asks them to join, so can be levelled up and a talent point put into Scientist and as many ability points as required (and available) put into relevant abilities (plus possible equipment bonuses).

IIRC I had tenebrium weapns drop as loot after killing the priest at the end of the Immaculate Trial. The weapon does not have to be entirely tenebrium. it only needs some tenebrium damage as part of its stats.

I never got any drops, but the orc blacksmith finally had a crappy sword I just bought. So I just went and smased the stone....and there was much rejoicing! Yaaaaayyyyy!!!!!

Well, you probably have enough money I guess ;-)

Tenebrium Weapons aren't worth it, at least in the Enhanced Edition. They are required for one single quest, so one is necessary.

As a note: the built-in boost on tenebrium weapons is 20% of base damage while the one that can be crafted on weapons is 30%. In addition, tenebrium weapons are excluded from crafting, so you cannot e.g. sharpen a sword on a whetstone wheel.

Sorry to hear you never had any drops. I always had at least two weapons by the time I got to the rift temple, usually a sword and a hammer after killing Loic. I alwys did the temple before going to the goblin village and Maradino's cave. I didn't go to Sacred Stone until all of west Luculla was done. My guys never went above tenebrium 1 (except Bairdotr went to 2) so I didn't craft the weapons. May your drops be awesome and your party strong.
