Other than that, keep checking Shereth / Vometia, and Peat, once you open the earth elemental portal in the homestead. AFAIK you should be able to craft it, as well.
That requires level 9. I was looking for something early.
Thankyou for the informative reply larian. I did get the book from the undertakers hut and after about 90 minutes more crafting spells, I got a summon spell and used it to make a skill book.
AP doesn't matter as summons should drop first round and 2 extra skill points are beyond the point of not worthy of mention... For a single point summon spider trumps SUW...
AP does matter because battle can often be decided in the first turn. If you mean summoning to initiate battle (thus negating the AP cost), then SAUD (or any powerful, expensive spell) will be better in that case.
As for 2 skill points, that would depend on how tight your build is.
I don't see how the spider beats SUW. Summon Spider costs 7 AP vs SUW's 4 AP cost. Both of them serve the purpose of cannon fodder. I will concede that the spider is better early game due to availability.
So it's more 4 extra AP, not 6 (unless you compare witchcraft 1 to witchcraft 3).
SUW is a great default summon, because it's the cheapest and it fulfills a summon's purpose (especially when you factor in the "Destroy Summon" spell).
SAUD remains a great summon when you get at 2 in witchcraft, as your second pick after Rapture, for all the fights where you precast it. It is available at level 9, so it's a good opener until level 15: during all mid-game. Against enemies who do have the Destroy Summon spell, at least you didn't blow SUW or the spider summon cooldowns, and you fall back on them then.
I wouldn't call the 2 AP penalty not worthy of mention, as I wouldn't consider much summoning it with the penalty (precasting it is OK, likewise precasting spells from wands).
edit:
I wouldn't invest 2 in witchcraft just to get that summon, since that was the topic I suppose. The spider or SUW are indeed better for a non-mage, since they only require 1 in investment.
