Ending [Spoilers]
Don't read any further if you haven't finished the game, as I'm detailing the ending below.

So, I finished the game a couple days ago, and was a bit let down by how short the ending was. Is there anything I'm missing? Are there any "secret" or multiple endings? Or is it really a 2 frame cinematic (Astarte shoving the dragon back in the box), the trip to the Source Hunter Academy to talk to npcs, and then the humorous dialogue at the End of Time with the goblins? All of which takes a couple minutes at most.

I guess with how story oriented the game is, I was expecting some epic Secret of Mana/Chrono Trigger/Final Fantasy style dramatic ending. It was just a bit disappointing, because the rest of the game is so engaging and immersive. The ending just seemed very, very short and rushed.

Or are there things to do/quests to complete/choices to make that lengthen the ending?

You are right: the ending is too short and rushed and worst of all, it sucks badly.

It's possible to get different speeches from ZixZax at the end, but what actions, exactly, determine what he says (or does not say) to you are very unclear. He called my Source Hunters arch-nemeses or something like that, even though they never disagreed in any conversation except once. So his speech to me made no sense.

I've asked for clarification on this board before in regards to what actions, specifically, determine what ZixZax says to you at the end, but no one told me any answer (maybe no one knows).

And it also made no sense that he was speaking to other Imps even though I had those Imps removed from my Homestead long before that point.

And IMO it also makes no sense that the Source Hunters go back to derp around in the SH Academy, even though ZixZax promised they could never return to Rivellon; and moreover, the whole entire story presents the idea that the characters have much grander and more important destinies than just to be run of the mill Source Hunters.

Plus, there's no closure/resolution/any reasonable attempt to address the Zandalor/Icara issue.

So yeah, DOS has one of the crappiest endings I've ever seen in a game.

There is a secret ending, but it's also very short. That is accessed by you letting Astarte or your party die during the fight vs. the Void Dragon.

The endings were lacklustre but the journey was great

I completely agree. This was one of the most immersive games I've played in a long time. For the first 60-70 hours of gameplay, I had a hard time tearing myself away to play anything else. Being able to interact with so much of the environment; being able to tackle quests in many different ways; going off the beaten path to find little secrets; all was very enjoyable.

Which is why the ending was such a let down. But, I can't wait to pick up the sequel during the next Steam sale, so Larian studios did far more right, than they did wrong. Just hoping that DOS2 has a better ending than the first game!

I was mad the screen faded out before I could level up the imps.

This game, after Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment and Tyranny, was a chore for me. Now, for ending, I was happy to be done with it after forcing finishing it. So far as I know, there are no other endings. And yes, it was a let down.
