I think that I effed up the main quest

I have spent the last number of hours trying to get through the Jake's Murder quest in Cyceal. I looked at the wiki and it says that I need to finish the "The Councillors Wife". I have the bloody knife, The Perfect Murder, and I have exhausted all dialogue with Esmeralda and Captain Aurias. I can't end the quest. He never gives me an option to arrest her, although I think there was an option when I initially confronted her a few days ago. I am not sure what option that I took then, but it seems to have bugged the quest.

Is there anyway to use console commands to get around this or do I need to find a save before the time that I confronted her?

I'm not sure what you mean. I have been spending the last 4-5 hours talking to everyone in Cyceal. The quest doesn't seem to advance. Jake's Murder won't advance without finishing "The Councillor's Wife". If I have done all the key items for that quest according to the wiki, then it seems I am at an impasse.

A councillor's wife will lead you to suspect Evelyn, but it is not the only way.
Also, to get to Evelyn, you can also have the pet pal talent (see the link)

Have you investigated Jake's tomb? When you find out that his body is not there, have you talked to the gravedigger about the missing corpse??

Instead of any wiki, I recommend you to use the game banshee page.

There are 3 pieces of evidence against Esmeralda, you need all of them to finish a councillor's wife. Have you the letter from the duke of Ferrol?

Just an FYI; It is impossible to mess up the main quest to the point of not being able to progress.

And the Councilor's Wife is just 1 of several different ways to advance the main quest and solve the murder. That one optional solution is not required at all.

Like everything else on the web, the gamebanshee site needs updating. The skills and spells in particular don't reflect the current state of the game.

But it's a good site to keep around nontheless. There just doesn't seem to be a one-stop-shop in DOS:EE. =)

It was very helpful. I forgot to go back to the crime scene and check around. The wiki that I looked at made no mention of the 3rd item.
