About the party, I really do not like battle mages or summoners, and wanted to play purely with fighter and cleric, but then I found out that you can take extra party memebrs so I decied to make a cleric and enchanter.
And though you may not like a certain class none are tied to a certain skill. All of my charcters except 1 were mult tasked with different skill sets. Look i probably played and got wrecked over 20-30 hours and re rolled after starting on tachtician, started on normal(way too easy) and then rerolled on tachtician and still was challenging. The start is brutal IMO but in all honesty having the right skills at the start is vital and some patience, using the enviroment and what the enviroment offers. If any of that makes sense. : )
O crap after seeing m_archibolds post i kept thinking of a different fight. Yea, if that fight is difficult you need to look at your party. The first time as i said was getting wrecked and after learning a lot i wiped that section with no problem. Again its about learning the skills and enviroment and once you understand that it all comes together beutifully.
in the first fights your abilities are pretty limited, so feel free to use in tactical difficulty your one use items like grenades etc. later you have much more options and dont need most of them anyway
tactical is not so hard when you use the tools you have, like elemental combos, properly and the game (sadly) tends to get easier over time
I am kinda not a fan of magic in computer games, so do you think it would be possible to play with party of rogue and fighter / cleric? I know there will be more npc who can join the party later, but I still want to have non-magic related party. And I want to ensure that it is in fact possible to play without heavy artillery support lol.
I see.... the problem is I do not want to rely on that elemental stuff, I do not want to do elemental combos. I want more conservative gameplay, though challenging.
no you dont need a mage to do it, scrolls, grenades, arrows, barrels are usable by non magic users with the same effect.
playing without elemental stuff is a bit like playing without healing, possible but much harder and you have to know exactly what to do and for example choose the right skills for your starting characters, maybe not the right thing for your first playthrough. to be fair, the elemental combos are a core mechanic which makes a lot of fun, not using them takes away a lot from the gameplay and tactical depth.
