I never bother with crafting. It's mainly for buffs or using ingredients to refill items, which can be purchased with the absurd amount of money everywhere.

Crafting is good for getting money in early game. Craft armor and weapons for sale and use. Craft leather armor and use golden grail on it to raise its value then sell it, for example. After about halfway through gold is no longer a problem.

Hmm.

I'll refrain from commenting on the answers.

Crafting is THE most important thing in the game.

1) Crafted weapons are the best in the game.
2) It's the best way to earn good money.

You can read about it in the guides that people made, including mine.

Cheers

Well... I'd say : stay in the middle.

Crafting is not "the most important" thing in the game, as the whole game is absolutely playable even without crafting.

But ! It is also useful, and specially if you're playing on higher difficulty modes.

Weapons craft is a bit overrated : it will consume precious (and quite rare) components to be powerful, and you can't decide all the bonuses. Looted weapons, with a bit of luck, may be more suitable.

But crafting/weaponsmithing allows you to apply bonuses on weapons or armors, combine items to create food and potions, create items for specific use (charisma amulet, for example, to equip before dialogs, etc...).

So I'd say crafting in D:OS is useful, and deserves attention. Depending on your will to play, and the difficulty, you can invest in, or not.
But a few points in crafting/blacksmithing will never be a loss.

Besides, crafting is almost impossible to "discover" by yourself : there are so many recipes, using so many components, that you must have a data-base to consult regularly.

i keep a few armors and items with +1 crafting +1 in blacksmithing and put them on when i do my crafting and smithing. Helps to upgrade weapons and armors that i find that i like to keep and use. Also to make my own arrows and bombs. When im done i take them off. If you take a few chests and barrels of oil and water back to Cyceal you can drop them off, store your stuff and set up your crafting area.

I also keep items with +1 lockpicking and +1 pickpocketing for the same reason.....................................not to waste points when i level up and use them for other things.

Crafting is very strong, and if you choose to not craft, you only gimp yourself. You can get 5 crafting + 5 blacksmithing while only investing 1 point into crafting and 2 points into blacksmithing (with scientist trait, pragmatic personality and items that boost the skills). It allows you to craft weapons with top damage and other extra bonuses on every level, as well as greatly improving resistances on gear.
