Warning to those who played Symphonia on the GameCube
As many know, Tales of Symphonia on PC will be using the PS3 version as its base. While the boost in resolution allowed for greater graphical clarity and several exclusive titles/events were added, the game was limited to 30 FPS, compared to the GameCube's 60 FPS. I know what you're going to say: FPS is irrelevant when compared to the overal grandeur of the game. I'm not the type of person to tell you not to purchase a game merely because it has a 30 FPS cap. In fact, it was wonderful in Zestiria's case.

Anyway, I purchased Tales of Symphonia Chronicles for PS3 just a couple of days ago to help guide a friend through the game (and I wanted to experience the additional content). During the first cutscene where Raine awakens Lloyd, the frame rate was already noticeable. The movements of Raine were choppy, and when I gained control of Lloyd it felt slow in comparison to the GameCube version.

When my first battle commenced, I noticed that I wasn't able to predict when to hop away from the enemy because there was a mild delay. Another bothersome detriment was the fact that I had to hold the control stick up for a quarter of a second, whereas I could just flick it in the GameCube version and activate a jump. While I adjusted to this within a couple of hours, many precisionists may find this to be a huge turn-off. The 30 FPS limit doesn't even matter in the overworld and cities/dungeons.

While those who never played the original GameCube version of Tales of Symphonia will likely notice minimal issues with this and many who did will adjust to the changes, I just thought that I would share my experience with you. I hadn't even played Symphonia on the GameCube in over 7 months though I still noticed this drastic difference in fluidity. Hope you guys still enjoy Tales of Symphonia on PC!

TL;DR: The 30 FPS lock on the PS3 version of Symphonia, the base for the PC port, is definitely noticeable and can result in a subpar experience in battle. Many who played the GameCube version will notice the difference immediately.

I tried explaining this in my thread but 30fps apologists will just attack you anyway, because they don't want a better experience.
Yeah, man. I'm not telling people to refrain from buying this, but the 30 FPS cap is extremely prominent. I played all the way through Zestiria without any complaints, but I just wanted to warn the community. Hopefully Bamco actually decides to make this 60 FPS, since they cannot use the excuse that combat is tied to the frame rate. If not, I'm certain that a mod would be reasonable.

Until we get past the PS3 ports, it's inevitable. I started with the GC version and would prefer everything were as I recall, but I know I'm not going to get it. Starting battles felt very easy and fluid back then, and the control responses were god tier. Someone will make an input delay and cellshading mod to make it better than the ♥♥♥♥ PS2/PS3 version (graphics wise.) Content wise the PS2 was great. It would've made me cream in my panties if they ported the PS2 version to 3 with updated textures, because maybe they'd have more FPS control than we think, but who knows.

There is a high chance that there will be a 60fps fix. There is already one for Zestiria that released yesterday.

they made a 60FPS mod i believe for zesteria so who knows what will happen to symphonia

There's a difference. Symphonia is over 10 years old.

Now i understand why I'm unable to go back on symphonia PS3 ...

Yeah, it took me awhile to completely make the transition. I still find that I am able to 1v1 bosses a lot easier on the GameCube version than in Chronicles.

Sorry for the necropost, but the input lag the OP mentions is an issue with the PS3 Tales games in general. It's a separate issue from the frame rate and it's not unique to Symphonia. The PS2 version (also 30 FPS) doesn't have the same input lag as PS3.

I personally don't notice any input lag, I can play Symphonia flawlessly, dodging high level spells immediately after they are cast, blocking attacks, in fact this is one of the two Tales games I am able to block successfully, the other being Vesperia. I'm using my usb xbox 360 controller if that changes anything though.

Yeah I don't think the input lag from PS3 is present in this version for whatever reason. I never actually played the PS3 version to compare though; I'm just repeating what I've heard from Dagoldenclip2/Passaro during one of his livestreams.
The input lag was present when the PC port originally released, but it would seem Bamco has patched it, since it's much less noticeable from what I can see.
