How good is the gamecube version?
well after seeing how horrid this port is and how apparently the GC version is much superior, how is the GC version compared to the PS3 one?

It runs at 60fps, it has the proper cel-shaded look, it's the original, it's free of any major bugs and typo's it's playable and just an all around better smooth and pleasant experience.

It's visually better, and 60fps means less input lag, and has the tech glitch that gives you more freedom on what artes you can get, along some other beneficial bugs that I'm not really familiar about. On the other hand, it lacks some extra features (search for version difference between GC and PS3, but most notably the GC version only has mystic artes for a few people instead of the entire team, plus some other artes and titles and stuff), and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have dual audio. (Also I think the original font is ugly but that's just my opinion)

The only thing the GCN version doesn't have is the extra content added in the PS2 and PS3 versions (such as some side quests, costumes and an updated secret dungeon).

The Gamecube version has no real problems, and looks great if you play in Dolphin since you can render at much nicer resolutions.

All its really got hoing for is is a frame rate.

The PS3 version runs like thick steamy crap through a funnel.
There are plenty of places where it doesn't even reach the capped 30 FPS, merrily juddering along at a sickening 15~20 instead.

The Gamecube version has it beat solidly in every field but the added content. However, the added quest content is minor on an already huge game and the added ougis are nice but not really necessary for the battles to flow well.

If memory serves me right on my one PS3 playthrough I recall a certain very large vertical room where you ride a platform in that uh... cannon place later in the game. It was like 10 fps or worse for me. Controls seemed to have responded during that but it was eyecancer.

That's one yes. But many, many times even the simplistic world map falls prey to the 10 FPS cancer.

Probably the only insult of ToS's PS3 port to the original that was greater than the FPS problems, was the fact that it had to carry ToS 2: Dawn of the new world on the same disc.

If you really want to play a Tales of game and have a PS3 then go check out PSN at the moment. They have Grace F and Xillia 2 for 8$, Xillia 1 for 5$. They're all really great and fun perfectly great on PS3.

This right here. Though to counter with the axe of subjectivity, the PS2 version's extra content was "nice" at best, certainly not import-worthy. I would take performance over it.

The GC version has less gameplay, worse graphics and more bugs and glitches than the PS3 version, but it's still a classic if you don't already have the fantastic PS3 remaster, or the Steam version. Each port is better than the previous.

The GC version has better textures and cell-shading than the PS3 version, which is a straight port of the watered down PS2 version with its internal rendering resolution jacked up to a 720p and massive FXAA slapped on in an effort to obscure the obvious poor graphical fidelity.
