If you want to try out this function, there's free game called SNOW which also does this. (and tons and tons of other games)
If the game doesn't have the support and is XInput only, then it needs something to make the thing work with the game, e.g. x360ce. But because of bad porting job files needs to be dropped into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Temp instead of games exe directory.
Or use DS4Windows like all of the tutorials on internet say, but I personally avoid that.
And that doesn't mean we can't ask or demand for better and wider native controller support from new games, of course we should, this is PC not Xbox dammit! And even if that controller isn't marketed directly to PC, fact it works with default windows drivers makes it PC compatible. Games OP mentioned happened to already have awesome controller support, so I wouldn't blame him for not knowing when controller has worked without issues with those titles.
also anyone needs a reminder that the DualShocks are the only well-known controllers (at least that I know) that have Bluetooth support, ya know without some stupid dongle)
Since motioninjoy became malware years ago, people made Scarlet.Crush Productions to offer a true alternative that is actually safe for your computer. It'll make your PS3 & PS4 controllers work on PC.
I've never heard of Input Mapper before so it might be better. What does it have that Scarlet.Crush Productions doesn't? Does it still take up a bluetooth dongle? 'cause if it doesn't, it'd really be worth trying it out.
