While Remastered is about the same as Steam version gameplay wise, there are small improvements:
- You can skip FMV cutscenes. (Technically, you can do this in Steam version by deleting the movie files).
- Improved Elemental Cargo controls (the ship in Tethe'alla for a small amount of time).
- All textures are AI upscaled. There are small adjustments to some textures (e.g. buttons in Kratos' outfit).
- Related Abilities in Tech menu.
- Remastered has additional localizations for Korean, Russian and Chinese.
Currently Remastered on Switch version has some issues with transparency and other effects. There seems to be some lag/slowdown as well. There are also 5-10 seconds load times depending on the system (where in PC, there are none).
Any issues that were in PS3/Steam versions of the game are still present in Remastered version as well (compass' needles don't spin when rotating the camera, some cutscenes are missing some dialog like the one with Remiel in the beginning and so on).
The Steam version holds up very well. Here is what the game looks like with TSFix on:

Bandai Namco has no plans to bring these updates to PC. (whether in the form of a patch, or new edition of the game)
This is because Valve changed the format for libraryfolders.vdf in 2020 according to Kaldaien.
If you wish to have Tales of Symphonia installed in a different location with TSFix on, then simply follow these steps:

I guess for that to happen, they'd have to somehow convince Night Dive Studios to help bring Symphonia to the Kex Engine.
