How can I take down those masked enemies?
I've been trying to stealthly liberate an outpost but these masked enemies are making it extremely difficult. I don't get a Takedown option popping up no matter how carefully i approach them, and it seems that the arrow is not at all effective when dealing with the mask they wear (wich also has protection at the back at their heads, impossibilitating that too) Wich means they always alert the whole camp. Don't know what they're called, but here's a pic http://postimg.org/image/exlvm2bqb/

They are tough, thats for sure.
Thrown spears seem to work the best.
But I usually throw Berserk Shards at them and use them to my advantage.
Otherwise, my tactics usualy revolve around dodging them, while picking off lesser enemies - so I can focus on them more after the area is somewhat clear of enemies.
Lots of Smash and run.

There is also a perk in the skill tree that allows you to do Takedowns on Chieftans and the like.

It's worth noting there should be an upgrade you can get which allows a takedown, though I haven't gotten it yet. I believe it's next on my list. Also, I'm not sure how reliable it is, but a few times I've thrown a spear and gotten them in the neck where it avoids any armor. That may just be because they were low already, I'm not sure

I can say for a fact that you can 'slip' some spears and arrows past their armor.
Definitely works, and I use that to my advantage quite often.

Not sure if autoaim changes this or not. But manual aiming seems to work, as far as hitting them in the flesh goes.

Maybe with autoaim, it corrects to exact chest or head shots, making it more difficult than it needs to be.

alright, cool. I think every time I've done it was in the heat of combat so I couldn't verify if it was just chance or not.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I've definitely taken them out with 1 spear before as well, and when I go to loot the spear from the corpse, it is sticking out of their skin, and not armor.

Thanks, guys. I'll try finding a jaguar to tame, as well as trying to hit them in the neck.
btw, how do I throw a spear? Think I missed this

Basically everything in your weapon wheel can be thrown. Besides the bow, which is ranged anyway..

But its Right click to prime it for throwing (or whatever Aim is, with a controller if you're using one)
Then left click to throw. (attack)

Yeah, those are Chieftans, and you need a specific skill to get a Takedown on them. (And instead of being a head-smash with your club, you shank them in the neck with a Shard. "Armor, schmarmor." Heh.)

You know what's fun with them, btw? Berzerk Shards (or berzerk pots, if you're that far along and your owl can drop them foryou). Use THEM to clean out the rest of the camp, hahaha.

Spears, Clubs: hold AIM (LT on an Xbox controller) to shift to Throwing mode; press ATTACK (RT on an Xbox controller) to toss it.

Spears do more damage when thrown than when thrust.

...

Also, remember you can POWER ATTACK in melee: press and hold the Attack key/button for a moment, then release it to swing.
Shane Mar 4, 2016 @ 3:34pm
I believe the description on the slingshot weapons states that it ignores the armour on those guys
GM Pax Mar 4, 2016 @ 3:38pm
OH, and there's a skill that lets your Sling pierce armor ... another that makes headshots with it an insta-kill ... that might work on Chieftans, if you've got great aim.

And Kiwi ... the thng is, they have very strong armor on their heads. Not so easy to headshot them - the arrow tends to bounce off. :D

Can you dive kill them with the owl without alerting the camp? I usually have luck either doing that or using the owl to scout until they are out of LOS from other enemies and use my black lion to take them out without alerting the camp. Lion is good at that.
Govalon Mar 4, 2016 @ 4:37pm
I usually kill them with a takedown. Really easy once everyone else is dead. Just sneak behind and press F when close enough. No problem taking any outpost by stealth if you just have the skill to takedown those heavy guys. Sometimes I just jump on them from above if there is some higher ground or just a hut that is above them. I do that just for the cool aerial takedown animation.

Also, my spear is fully upgraded so throwing at them bellow head does a lot of damage. 1-2 spears kills them.
