So it wasn't really 'ripped off' from anything in particular. Lots of stories use this historical account as a basis for using blue body paint.
Celts who lived all over europe did in general have a habit of painting their bodies and Picts who lived in british isles are a subgroup of celts.
(a) Neolithic tools and culture;
(b) Blue body-paint;
... end of list.
The Maya are a shorter, stockier people. Not the thin, lithe people we see in the Izila tribe.
Nor did the Maya have a monopoly on blue body-paint. The Picts (Scotland and northern England) did the same kind of thing - they used Woad. Google it.
The jungles of Europe.
Also: if you spent 90% of your time seminaked and out-of-doors, your skin would darken.
Even more, when you add in the "bathing is not yet a thing, and soap won't be invented for a few thousand years". (Seriously, everyon in the game is _filthy_ ... and a good many probably have lice, fleas, and so on. This is pre-hygeine, here!!)
I'm not ignoring it, I'm refuting it. THEY DON'T HAVE ANY.
