Cavernreach is still deep in development, and after extensive gameplay testing, some significant design changes have been made to better align the game with its narrative-focused vision.

One of the biggest changes is the removal of rock and mineral collecting for money. While this system was part of the game early on, testing showed that it didn’t meaningfully contribute to the experience. It often felt tedious, slowed progression, and acted more as filler than engaging gameplay—especially for a story-driven exploration game. As a result, the mechanic has been fully removed.

With this change, equipment upgrades are no longer tied to currency or purchasing systems. Instead, progression is now driven by the story itself. New equipment is unlocked naturally through gameplay and discovery, allowing the experience to feel more streamlined, focused, and purposeful.

Because mineral collection was removed, the entire purchasing system has also been cut. The computer terminal previously used to buy and sell equipment now exists purely as environmental storytelling and world-building.

Diving mechanics are still very much a core part of the game. Scuba air remains a limited resource, and tanks can still be refilled as needed. However, there are no longer upgrade tiers tied to grinding—any improvements to equipment are now handled through the narrative.

These changes were made after realizing that the early game lacked clear direction and relied too heavily on repetitive backtracking—such as constantly leaving the cave to recharge batteries just to re-enter. That loop became frustrating and pulled focus away from exploration and atmosphere. Now, players can remain in the cave as long as needed, keeping momentum and immersion intact. Just remember: being in darkness is still dangerous, so keeping your light on is essential for survival.

All of these updates will be reflected in a new, refreshed demo, which will be released soon. The revised experience is more focused, more engaging, and better represents what Cavernreach is meant to be.
