Ok How do you buy shares of stock so the bad guy doesn;t buy th company. I looked in New York but could not find any stock exchange?

You and The Bad Guy can buy shares only at auctions, which are held sometimes in some random cities (not only New York). The other way The Bad Guy obtains shares is ... don't know.. probably some timer. But if you hire The Detective, he will tell you how to prevent the shares obtaining by The Bad Guy. This Detective can be hired after some story quest only.

Thanks I have come accross the detective, he was in Louisville, but could not get there for the locks could not nbe bought? (Still working on that.) I have not come accross an Auction yet? Is that by buying up the papaers to tell where it is?

Sorry. I don't fully understand your question.
But If I got the main idea... Auctions with shares, which you can buy, are conducted separately from The Detective. I mean that The Detective says you when The Bad Guy are going to obtain the shares somehow. Usually in such quests you cannot obtain shares, you can only prevent The Bad Guy to obtain shares. Therefore the Detective has no connection with auctions.
The real auctions are story (and maybe timer) driven. From time to time you'll be invited to take a part in such an auction. That will be a quest, not just a notifications like for auction about farm, coal mine, whatever else.

Yes i saw that but our other owner is buying up stocks very fast (22% to my 4%) got the money to buy but no opportunity. So far auctions like you said are for hotels and mines. Never won one, but I will keep trying.

The detective will tell you how to stop the bad guy from getting shares (it will allow you to sort of sabotage his dealings so that he porgress no further), and at random times (seems random atleast) you will be alerted to auctions being held where you can buy 2-3% of the shares.
