Its been on phones and tablets for years now.
"Is Advance Wars basically" is not grounds for a lawsuit. If it does not use Nintendo assets, like sprites, animations, audio then it is not against the law in any way.

There is nothing original in Advance wars, its just a turn based strategy game, as is this.
It is advanced wars tho lol
A Lawsuit would be insane, because it uses no assests from Advance Wars. Otherwise everybody could sue everybody because of ideas... .

The whole point of copyright is to protect intellectual property. In other words, ideas.

the concept only makes sense on some scale, otherwise one company hogs everything and nobody can produce anything anymore because "it is similar" to our product. For example, one company protects toilet paper, now nobody can produced toiletpaper.
It protects ideas but not complete games. I could make a game similar to Advance Wars with totally different graphic, different names, just the unit and moving system is similar and Nintendo could never sue me.

If you add enough difference in your assests (models, maps, audio, ect) then yes maybe.
This game however did the bare minimum to change their assests to try and get away with it. I don't think that skin swaps of characters are enough. The sprites are the same style and animated the same way as Advance Wars. The game play is an exact 1:1 as far as presentation and exicution. This game can be taken down by Nintendo if they so choose.

Also do you guys compeletly forget that Nintendo was originally sued by the people who created King Kong because Donkey Kong seemed to similar their IP that they had copy written? Similarities are grounds for legal action. The dev should at least know that.

How different do you want to animate a soldier?... He can only do a few motions. Same goes for tanks or planes. How different do you want it to make? 3D? that costs more and is harder to pull off. Guess then Battlefield, CoD and Titanfal should sue each other because of military equipment, mechs, wall running and other stuff.

Well, King Kong and Donkey Kong are quite close, both apes, the name, the color, the story. Much closer then this game and Advance Wars.

How about they actually uses assets they came up with? Or original map layout and design? Or game play. Those things can be different, they can be very different in fact. I just saw part of a lets play for this game and it looked like the first level was exactly the same as the first level of AW. No originality was put into this game, at all why would anyone want to support that?

As far as the AAA Shooters go, they all use different modeled assests/engines/lighting effects/and general asthetics to make their games look different. The genre is the same but the content is different. If you are saying you can't see any similarities between this game and Advance Wars you are in complete denial buddy, or the developer of this game trying to save face.

To me all those AAA Shooters have the same design, military. There is not that much of a difference.
I havent played this game yet, therefore no clue about map design.. But as Nintendo hasnt made an Advance wars in years I dont care if its a rip-off. Rather we get microtransaction rip-offs like Animal Crossing House Manager and another chibi zelda game.
I see similarities, I never said I dont. But callingit a complete rip-off or shouting for a lawsuit is kinda insane.
The last Advance Wars was on DS right? If I remember that correctly.
I find it funny that people champion Nintendo for so much stuff but in the grand scheme of things they arent that good.

If the online is good and the map editor works then im fine.

Let me put it this way - If you made THIS game, they could sue you. This game has nothing original in it. It's a blatant ripoff, not a legal clone, even if it does use it's own assets. Assets aren't the only thing you can copyright.

Guess I then should copyright water and air too.

You should do some research on copyright if you want to participate in conversations about it.
