When a user is disconnected from a multiplayer session, that user can rejoin when the connection is restored - as long as the session is still in progress. Meanwhile an AI bot takes over that character.
Gremlins, Inc. hosts all multiplayer sessions on the server (Amsterdam or Singapore), so there’s no “hosting player” per se.
If you remember (or can look up from your Past Sessions) the time, including the time zone, of the session and the server, we can look into that.
The only way for a multiplayer session to “disappear” is when all human players are disconnected at once. That is a pretty rare thing.
The only thing I can recall is a DDoS attack on the Amsterdam cluster that we had this past week one of the days, for a few hours it was fairly bad. But this sort of thing happens once a year or so (thank god).
We've got somewhat spotty internet too that sometimes gets rather unstable.
I was playing with my wife, so we were both on the same internet connection. Her's just gave a disconnected error, mine got stuck at the "taking steps to re-connect". From what you said, I'd guess we just got an internet hiccup that disconnected both of us.
The session was about 11:00 pm last night, from what I can tell, the past played list ends at about 2 am so it's already dropped off that list. It was in the Mountain Time Zone, hosted by Ladi Gate if that helps, 2 vs 2 game.
That being said though... I still would love to see a multi-player auto-save feature for backup, and for life events when sometimes I just have to stop.
