And if you don't want to go based on logic, Ubisoft confirmed already on their system requirements page for the game that XboxOne, Xbox360, and PS4 controllers will be fully supported.
Actually AC has had lots of problems with controllers in almost all of the releases. I am currently trying to get my Steam Controller to work with AC and it is a pain in my ass. There are fixes for other controllers but I have found one for steam yet.
Yup - pretty obvious from the 'Full controller support' on the store page..... oh, wait...
And no mentions what so ever about controllers under the min req./recommended requirements.
I'd choose keyboard+mouse over controller most days though ;)
I have trouble with Assassin's Creed 1 with controller
You have to go to Documents/Assassin's Creed Syndacate and open AC, scroll down to [Wireless Controller DefaultBindings] and copy this :

I'm sure other players will find it useful.
Older games may have compatibility issues with newer controllers, including Steam, Xbox One/Series X/S or PS.
I would advise keeping a wired old-fashioned X360 pad, just in case.
