In unity, you play as a random gamer who is contacted by the assassins and get inducted as an Initiate. In syndicate, you play as initiate once again, but this time he is affiliated with assassins right from the start. Unity ans syndicate has only cutscenes for modern day, no playable portion.
Also after Edward Kenway, none of the newer protagonists(Shay, Arno, Jacob, Evie) are Desmond's ancestors. I don't know if you are already aware or not, but the animus is replaced by helix console now. Helix console connects to the helix cloud and allows anyone to play anyone else's genetic memories.
ah ok.
so is helix owned by obstergo?
ah!

Did the present protagonist join the Templars?
I thought it left off after he was "offered" the "choice" to either join or die right there like a dog. I mean, even if I wasn't going to join, at that point I'd say yes anyway :p
Obviously. Anyone would say yes at that point. I was hoping they would give an action packed sequence where we will kick the pistol off Otso's hands and then run and escape the abstergo building. Too bad that didn't happen.
