They won't change the modern day to something different as the events are taking place in real time i.e. modern day part of a 2015 game takes place in 2015 and so on.
I have a feeling we wont get any present day stuff next year. Just because of the way things have been lately, we will get some kind of view from the Templars and 2017 we will get present time again but guess what? Juno still won't have the power to materialise in the world. Because you know cash cow.
We will get to an end eventually though, hopefully before we're all dead and buried.
Personally i wish UBISOFT would get on with it and end this present/Juno story not becuase i hate it but just the way they are dragging it out. They can still carry on with the premise, Just as Abstergo or the Assassin's equivalent buissness where you can visit ancestors memories in a animus for their yearly cash cow.
Your question has two wrong assumption.
1. Brotherhood and Revelations were not spin offs, they were main entries which matters for both present day and historical story.
2. They dropped the number system so that it doesn't end up in assassin's creed 19 or something. They said so in an interview.
This is quite a common misconception about ac. Non-numbered titles are not spin offs. :(
I am just watching the final modern day cutscene over and over on youtube and it definitely makes me feel how good ac can be in movie format. It's a great thing that the movie is in full production by now. We won't see it until December 21 in 2016 but still getting pretty hyped. They said it'd have robust modern day.
Revelations was the best ac in terms of feeling epic. The connections with altair and especially the ending gave me chills :p
The movie should be really good, I really liked the Prince Of Persia movie.... so i have faith in the movie. I hear its in the assassins creed universe but is a new assassin
It's about Spanish Inquisition and yes it's fully canon. The thing that mostly gives me hope that ubisoft has total control over everything in the movie rather than movie companies. Some people in Hollywood were a bit angry over this but this ensures that this movie won't share the same fate as other things like anime or game franchises when going to a movie format. For example, if you are a dragon ball(I mean as whole series :- db, dbz and db super) then dragon ball evolution movie would have been a pile of disappointment for you.
Yeah, every db fan was hyped seeing the trailers and then they did everything wrong :p Wel, at least it influenced Toriyama to create bog, rof and finally db super.
Anyway I hope the ac movie will be really great. A movie format means no need to worry about the thinking how fun the gameplay needs to be, so more freedom in the presentation of events.
*A somewhat high-tech hacker assassin
*Bringing the assassin guild system back (It would be so awesome to recruit people with real background story from all over the world and form your own international assassin cell to help you out; Just like in Brotherhood just with a bit more depth to the members)
*Improved stealth and parkour mechanics
*Open world in multiple cities (Tokyo, Berlin, Paris etc.? with Sigma Team chasing you around)
*Interesting new modern main charakter (!)
*General overhaul of the various "assassinistic" equipment and motives
and HOLY HELL I WOULD DO ANYTHING TO PLAY THIS GAME.
For real that would bring a lot of people back in my opinion. Maybe if they realize how much cash they could make it will happen. And just to make it clear this is my opinion there are certainly lots of people that like AC the way it is right now. But I think it isn't using all of it's potential.
