Worst: AC1 - booooooooring ;( Altair NEEDS and DESERVES a remake on 10th anniversary!!
But the combat was better in AC3 and Unity. Feels more challenging, brutal and cinematic.
The game ran fine for me from a FPS perspective, but I have very high end hardware.
You guessed incorrectly on Unity's combat. I'm actually pretty solid at the combat despite how badly designed it is, the system is just awful and nowhere near fun. Ubisoft stated publicly they wanted to make it harder. I think many of us were fine with that. The way they went about it was just terrible, though. Take away the majoirty of the moves and options they'd built up in the combat system over the past however many games, zoom the camera in so the player struggles to see what's going on, and give every enemy a firearm. In a nutshell, that's what they did. And it was just a clunky, infuriating result.
What made it worse, (bridging to your next point) is that the engine seemed to have almost an "input lag" type issue which is what I meant in my earlier post about the climbing and movement being clunky. It just wasn't responsive like all the other games were. They fixed a lot of that in Syndicate, but it still had a LITTLE bit of it.
Ya, Black Flag has cemented itself at #2 on my list of best AC games after the Ezio trilogy. Wish they'd done another game on Edward's journey to England. He was such an awesome character.
Nice to hear someone at least enjoyed Unity; outside of yourself I've only ever met one other person who liked it and he admitted to me it was likely because his playstyle is one of never engaging in open combat, preferring to stay 100% stealth at all times. For me, even when compared to games OUTSIDE of the AC series, Unity was one of the worst games I've ever played in 30+ years of gaming. The only thing I felt like they did a nice job on (which they always do in these games) is the world - it was very lifelike, graphics were great, setting was detailed. The story was mediocre with many missed opportunities and they did a poor job of exlpaining certain elements with the POEs, the aforementioned combat was the worst I've ever seen in a game, stealth blending / movement didn't work very well like previous games - very clunky like so much of the game.
I played AC1 after AC3 and didn't like it much. I think it's the worst AC. Altair is overrated and the game lacked much of the gameplay/combat/economy systems the later games have. It's actually pretty sad they repeated the boring mini-mission gameplay from AC1 in Syndicate if you think about it.
Was disappointed in Syndicate... I can't find the motivation to play it.. I think its just that its too bright and everything happens in daylight.
EDIT:
Nevermind, I think Altair's Chronicles for the DS is the worst Assassin's Creed game.
Personally I'd say
Black Flag, AC 2, AC Rogue, AC Brotherhood, AC Revlations, AC Freedom Cry, AC Syndicate
AC Liberation, AC 3, AC 1, AC Unity.
Freedom Cry is an add on, so maybe you could remove it.. Liberation was kinda limited based upon the fact it was released on a handheld system..
I haven't played Origins or Odyssey yet to place them on the list..
Another Note,, Black Flag isn't really like your typical AC game, it was like Ubisoft started making a pirate game, and when they decided to scrap the idea, took the content they had, and put it in teh AC universe.. although the game itself is amazing, it really seems like a shot out of left field when you play if after playing the other games..
liberation was held back because it was released on the handheld system and isn't really a full AC game, which is why it's limited...
Everything else kinda sucks.
Why i choose Origins over Black Flag ? Because origins was a great game to show how the Creed started, AND it has a lot of new features, (Skills, RPG elements, MORE Weapons) And i very like Bayek's relationship with his Family. it just very strong
Why i choose Brotherhood over Odyssey ? Because Brotherhood was an excellent game that focused on the Assassin's Creed. It shows Ezio greatest glory at Rome, It added new feature like Assassins Recruit which really really make you feel like an Assassin. Odyssey was REALLY REALLY GREAT, but it lacks Assassin elements in an Assassin's Creed game
Why i choose AC over Rogue ? Because AC is a really serious game about the Creed, it really shows how bad is the war between Assassin and Templar and Middle Ages, and the dialoges are VERY VERY good, so many wisdoms. While rogue is still a really good game (The idea of an entire game that about an Assassin turned Templar was a great idea by Ubisoft.) It still lacks Assassins stuff in an Assassin's Creed game
Why i choose Unity over AC2 ? Dude, Unity was great ! The world is really REALLY beautiful, The narrative was great, The side quest was great, AND the Assassins elements was really great, Has so many emotional moments, and the story....its... really forced to the ending. But for AC2, i put it lower on the list because its pretty.... boring... i mean Ezio was grea- no, ALL characters is great (Love the hidden gun btw) but the gameplay is really boring
Why i choose Revelation over Syndicate ? Revelation was.... Emotional...The Ezio,Sofia,Brotherhood relationship is felt special. The dialoge in all character is great but ... I dont like constantinople... everything is soooooooo yellow-ish which hurts my eye. BUT Syndicate is good too, i really love Evie and Jacob (Seriously i love them as character.) The story progression is good, and LONDON IS COOL !. but .. what are the reason that makes me put it at the bottom ? The gameplay (Mission objective one, cause i love the open world gameplay) is really boring. Its very straight forward and there is no unique about that, BUT I LIKE THE UNIQUE ASSASSINATION IN THE ASSASSINATION MISSION.
In my list it seems that i said every game "Was Great/Good" because i like all of Assassin's Creed game equally. Except Liberation cause that terrible and i dont want to talk about it. Bye
