Rationing?

I've heard many theories on rationing. I've heard you could feed them food and water every five days and your fine, but that usually doesn't work for me twords later in the game. People said 5 days for food and 4 days for water and is there a trick to rationing or do you just have to carefully read the journal?

what works for most people is just give them food and water every five days.

I personally just give them food when it says they're hungry and water when it says they're thirsty (you can click on the characters to see their status that day). I stretch it to starvation and dehydration if the food or water is dangerously low.

They tend to get sick if you ration to the point they're starving or dehydrated. Once they're sick you have to either use a medkit or feed them almost every single day to cure them (or cut the loss entirely and let them die/leave).

It works only in first 10 days. Later it should be 17 and 23 day. Or all of them will die. As for me I'm trying to give them water every 5 days (+1 day after they got dehydration) and feed them after they're hungry +1 day.

Also I found that after you feed them, next day you should pass if they still hungry. Cause this message can disappear. And one trick: you can send your surviver with dehydration or thirsty in a trip and when they come back, this status will also disappear. :)
