Thankfully I can play through proton by forcing compatibility mode.

May I request some theories on why this might be the case? I don't fully understand what an upgraded NW.js means and the issues it causes, all I know is that the Steam version is broken but the Linux DRM-free version is not.
Is the confusion about using Proton? Proton isn't a mod. It is Valve's WINE middle ware that lets you run Windows Games on Linux. It's how people are able to Windows copies of Elden Ring on Steam Decks. But we don't really want to do that to play Cross Code. We want to run the Linux version on Linux. But the Linux version does not currently work.
Also, I'm not a developer, just a moderator.
Currently it seems that there is a version difference between the Native Linux client and the itch.io client. I'll have this checked.
The performance when using proton is very bad, not the fps, but the frame passing is horrible. But I also have other problem using the native version of Linux, the controller map also doesn't work.
