Anyone remembers Alundra? Is this game similar?
Ok, for well over a decade I've been looking for something that can get me the feel Alundra (not Alundra 2, never Alundra 2) gave me: great story, tough smart puzzles, unforgiving bosses. So far, literally not a single game got close. This one here looks eerily similar from the videos... could it be that this is the gem I've been looking for all these years?
Has anyone who played Alundra (again, not Alundra 2) played this? Can it compare?

So.... being one of the devs I'm not here to give you a valuable statement about whether the game it actually good or not.

But just saying that Alundra was definitetly one of our big inspirations. CrossCode pretty much uses the same perspective (2D Graphics but a lot of depth in the environment where you can simply jump on objects). CrossCode is also very puzzle heavy (at least in dungeons) similar to Zelda or Alundra.

I btw. agree that Alundra is great in terms of story (I always saw it as a Zelda with superior story - though I liked puzzles in Zelda slightly better). CrossCode is also very much Story focused, though the setting is very different.

I suggest you give the free demo a try.

Personally I'm a big Alundra fan so I think you might like CrossCode.

I got a really big Alundra like feel from this game from start to finish, which is fantastic because Alundra was one of my favorite games. It's definitely the creative jumping around environments that does it for me, though this game offers up a lot of good puzzle rooms too.

The setting is obviously very different of course but the enviroments on offer are fantastic, they are colourful and detailed and it does a very good job of immersing you. The combat system is fantastically polished as far as I can tell which for me is an advantage over Alundra, which sadly lacked a little in this area for me. Oh also, great bosses so far, which Alundra did have.

I seriously can't wait for more of this game. If you're looking for an Alundra like experience, which are rare enough, then I would say you won't be dissapointed here.

Wow, thanks guys! Your responses are very helpful!
Hearing that Alundra was an actual inspiration for this game and that it gives puzzles the deserved attention is music to my ears :)
I'm buying CrossCode the moment it's released!

I've been waiting for another Alundra type game to be made for ages. It's my favourite game. Wish more people knew of it. I played it when I was 14. Pure Nostalgia when looking at it. Story was great. I loved the hard puzzles. Some took me days to figure out and when I did, the feeling of achievement was amazing. Hope the puzzles are HARD. puzzles in most games now are pretty easy and you're given too many hints.

Still playing this game in 2022 😎 would be cool having a remake or remaster for the next gen 👌 or even a proper sequel follow up of the 1st game instead of that trash they made for number two 🙈

I btw. agree that Alundra is great in terms of story (I always saw it as a Zelda with superior story - though I liked puzzles in Zelda slightly better).

Alundra is pretty impressive in terms of content...I replayed it recently and I think I counted like 22 to 25 dungeons...and not short ones either since most took an hour or more to get through. That game is loaded with dungeon content but it can become a grind. In terms of combat, Alundra is pretty primitive so Crosscode definitely improves on that part.

I definitely got Alundra vibes most with the Crosscode overworld where a lot of it is just "traversal puzzles" and trying to find the right path around a large room to get a treasure...Alundra had a bunch of that as well so that seemed to be the biggest inspiration.

And Alundra 2 is so unbelievebly bad ..played it on ps1 and was my biggest regret

Believe it or not, the puzzles are pretty good in Alundra 2, especially in some of the later dungeons. It's the one bright spot in an otherwise ugly game.
