Oh. My GOD. The monk's temple.
I mean, it's doable, but man did I get mad at this thing. It didn't bug out or hit any snags, but it's hard as crap. Jeebus.

And I thought top-down platforming was easy.

Yeah... we get that a lot.

Though it is much easier if you use your guard to block the projectiles.
I think that many players have problems with it because the controlled jumping + guarding on those narrow platforms requires a different playstyle compared to the fast dodging around that is often preferred during normal combat.

Also, it will get slightly easier in the next version. For example, you will have more time during the extra challenge.

In any case, thank you for the feedback! I always love to read quest-impressions (even the angry ones, haha....). :>

Make puzzles harder! We need puzzles that will explode some peoples brains!

The without guard challenge is madening.. if only there was a chepoint before teh final phase, just to get hot and warm, because daaaaaaaammn even if you udnertsnad teh technic of staying on the edge, it is hard, and with the rpessure factor, of re-doing the previous session againg you easly begin to panic after avoiding 3 shots and you need to avoid 4 before obtaining a plateform DAAAAAAAMN. that is hard. avoiding shot while staying on a single plateform is a nice skill to have but after try and try I can say the pay off is really hazadous.

Your shield is re-enabled for the final part, you know. There's a popup notification about it and everything.

Huh? I believe that the no shield challenge was first about trying to not use the shield meaning that you do have teh option to use it, and second I believe that it was epecialy at the final part.

You'd be super disappointed if you actually succeeded at that segment when you didn't get the quest completion for it. There's a kiosk at the beginning of the trial room where you specifically turn off your shield to do this challenge, and it tells you outright that it's reenabled for the very last segment.

Thx

Gosh the tightness in timing for blocking was insane, and I did the second segment SO many times by not using shield (using it+knockback killing me makes me cry and salty as all hell anyway) because of slight misses with faulty controller...

God, I remember doing that challenge, and yes, I WAS super disappointed when I finally finished the whole thing only to have to redo it because I hadn't actually disabled the shield. I think the timer was around 55 min when I finally completed it. At least when I went back and actually started the challenge correctly it was super easy :p

If cenetr yourself well, using the shield make it super easy. But I have a mouse KEKEKKEKEKEKE and some people use to say that controllers was superior to keyboard?! Kekkekkekekekek fouls.

I'm not a big fan of how it is currently implemented tbh, having read the issue multiple time here, that people don't know that they actually have to deactivate the shield specifically beforehand...

Maybe the panel should instead be placed right into the entrance of the chasm with a "access denied" barrier around it until the player chooses a mode (at least for the second runthrough).

But what rubs me even more the wrong way is the kind of inconsistancy of the entire hard version. Basically you make this huge deal out of "AND NO TRY IT WITHOUT A SHIELD, NEWBIE" just to be like "yeah, this actually isn't possible, here's your shield back, sry" for the final part... A more elegant solution would have been to make the plattform a little bit bigger instead, but I'm not sure if the engine actually allows scaling for such objects? Or how about two (maybe slightly smaller) plattforms circiling around each other constantly like a Merry-go-round?

Yeah, I wasn't entirely certain about it either, especially because of the last part. Scaling up the platform would not be possible, but adding more platforms would be. We might give that a shot at some point.

I also considered replacing the challenge with a simple "all projectiles are faster" one and just keeping noShield optional without relevance to challenges. But that would honestly not be as interesting.

As for players forgetting to reactivate it: The quest-tasks actually reset when you leave or deactivate it, so you already got that hint.
Though I just got an idea for a convenient hint before starting...

The first time I misread teh description, just because my "Challenge accepted spirit certainly), I did read that you have to disable you shield especialy for the last part, I did not activated my shield just in case, until the last part.. Were I also tried to dodge. But that was because I immagined it being much harder. I found a trick using the ball, you can moove and jump with greater precision and avoid shot while staying on the same platform with "relative ease", it allow you to moove slower, but with greater precision....

I would not mind a warning sign that you cannot avoid...
But In the other hand a brrier sound no good if you have to die and redo the challenge, from the first part.. Just remember super meat-boy. That's right. Youd did get me.

The agony of that area pales in comparison to later.... :praisesun:

Finished the whole challenge (normal, speedrun, no shield) on version 0.8 in about 30 minutes.
With the no shield part completed twice and without the bug giving you back your shield for the last part.

I don't know how it was before, but now It's not that hard all things considered.
