Screw that challenge of ascension
I've played a lot of games, from NES classics to the modern ones, Chrono Trigger, Dark Souls, you name them. But right now I can't remember anything more infuriating than those final challenges in Bergen.
The frosty challenge is alright but the timed one almost made me break my keyboard. I tried different strategies and beat it eventually, but that ♥♥♥♥ is crappy game design. I'm sorry but whoever designed that ♥♥♥♥ is either a sadist or someone who doesn't do playtesting. If the reward for completing that was strongest weapon in the game it would still be unrewarding.

also: puzzle difficulty slider usually doesn't help at all.

It's not THAT horrible but I agree the reward for all this trouble is s**t to say the least.

First time I was doing that I was also extremely angry because of all the bs that can go wrong there (the final turret section, my god).

That last part with the 4 turrets and a single narrow windows to slot shots through is pretty brutal. Normally with the trials, on the second run I will insist on completing them together, the "No guard + Complete in less than 2:00;" and the "Extra Frosty + Complete in less than 2:00." If I did that with this last trial, I'd probably throw my controller across the room, ngl. It's one of those where, it's not so bad for the first couple sets, but to then be punished at the very end, by a simple mistake, and have to start from the beginning if I want to beat the time trial, that's the worst.

I'm not entirely sure what to suggest with this one. Maybe cut one of the turrets out and space them so there's 2 slots to try shooting at the wave portal. You figure if you miss the first shot the time needed for another charge shot is about the same as it takes for a turret to slide through the aiming line.

Guys, it's optional. You do it if you want to challenge yourself. And it's not even that hard. I'm bad at aiming and terrible at timing and i did it (on my 10+ try). Yes i was frustrated but so proud when i succeeded. Like i saw in a review of this game:

'Optional in this game IS optional. If you don't like it, stop forcing yourself to do it and enjoy the rest. The content in this game is vast and you will probably not finish 100% of this gamen even more if you do content you don't like.'

Lastly, some really enjoy that type of content who need reflex and fast thinking (not me, because like i said, i suck at this thing) i don't want to lower the challenge just because i'm bad at them. You seems to be like that too. Other challenge who need more brain are so enjoyable for me, it remind me of Golden Sun when i was younger. :)

Project Terra is a resounding success->Radical Fish Games buy right to Golden Sun from Camelot or whoever is the current owner->we get a modern GS sequel->humanity as a whole finally ascends to a higher level of existence.

I agree the challenges aren't that hard, not easy either of course, but they were never intended to be easy and I simply don't like when changes are made on things where they aren't necessary,
Earlier in the days players improved to beat the challenges in a game nowadays games become "improved" so players can (easily) beat their challenges

Happy that I am not the only one who felt this way :D

Kinda interesting, for me it was completely opposite - I spent more than 2 hours over several evenings trying to beat frosty challenge, but after it, timed was a cakewalk

it took me like 4 hours or more just to beat one of them. no clue how many attempts. however on my second playthrough it took like 2 attempts and like a few minutes tops. and third playthrough i got it first try and then decided to see how good of a time i could get. don't remember my exact times, but i know i did the hardest challenge with all challenges turned on and did it more then twice as fast as my first finish with no challenges turned on.

so while its hard, its doable, however as in my experience, its not just learning how to do it but also getting better at the game mechanics in general that helps. its not just about player skill level, cause apparently i spent the longest to finish it in this thread... so my tip is, if you are having trouble now, take a break, continue along the game for a chapter or two, and then come back and try again. you might be shocked to see it become easier. work on committing more of the game to muscle memory and those skills will transfer over. it just takes time for some of us.

also known as "git gud" i guess? maybe that's not how people use the term but that's how i use it.
